The Gunstringer is a fairly straightforward , one arm moves the character left and right and the other one aims.

You can do it 2 player where one player aims and one moves

Seriously though - generally speaking for a 4 year old shooting and maiming games not such a good idea. Call me old fashioned etc....

      Gunstringer is a 12.

What's that hide 'n' seek game called again?

        Oh yeah, Manhunt!

In all seriousness, I'd avoid getting them into videogames for as long as possible, especially at a young age when overstimulation is bad for their development.

If you're dead-set on it, how about trying some games aimed specifically for children? Even the Lego games seem to involve shooting and fighting, but they are co-op.
You could have a look at some of the suggestions on www.commonsensemedia.org

You could look for some games on the Indie section on the Live Marketplace. There are some simplistic, but fun games that are either cheap or free.

How about one of the Pixar Cars games?

Beautiful Katamari is great fun and is rated 3+

Just released on Kinect is Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster, and it looks great fun!

Probably because of that scene where the lumberjack mounts an alligator and that one of the bosses is a prostitute. You could always not do those levels

              Well, if the kid's a mature four-year-old...

My 4 year old boy (and 6 yo girl) play LittleBigPlanet. They love it. I was surprised at how fast the boy picked up navigation, controls etc on the DS3.

"the boy"? Are you Homer Simpson in disguise?

On topic, if you're going to buy Kinect then another vote for Kinectimals as it will probably be the best game available for it you can buy a 4 year old, nice and cheap too atm I should think. The new Disney sim (not the **** one with crappy little monsters in it) will probably be a good one too, especially if you can't afford a trip to the parks in France or America currently.

I was definately younger than 4 when I first played games. Granted they were on the SNES/GB so not quite as graphic as modern games but even so, I can confirm that playing Street Fighter did not encourage me to don a bandana and start Shoryukening people!

That said, some games scared the absolute crap out of me when I was 8-10....

What characters does he like? My boy loves Anpanman and Thomas the Tank Engine so he loves playing the games. Thomas is soo easy its impossible to lose. Some of the games mentioned so far are highly regarded but no 4 year old just starting games is a critic. I am more critical now but when I was a kid any licensed game made me happy.

He loves Fireman Sam - a game where you put out fires with the Wii Remote would be ideal. Does such thing exist?

I might try one of the 'Cars' games but he has gone off Cars in recent months do I don't know...

My Five year old loves Streetfighter IV as he can button mash and even finish it on easiest (a tear formed the first time).
I appreciate the subject matter could be a little too old but so far he hasn't tried Dragon Punching his nan or anything; he's quite a balanced lad.

New Super Mario Bros is a good one, I play both the Wii and DS one with my 3 1/2 year old. He doesn't quite get it yet, and doesn't have the skill but likes trying to collect the coins etc. He loves Mario Galaxy but a bit its too complicated/hard for him to play.

LOL; his three year old sister is getting involved in Vs....maybe by the time they are of age, gaming will be a lucrative profession! Keep me in the luxury I'm accustomed to!
