    Wrestling game recommendations please :)

    Hi one and all,
Been re-watching a lot of circa 1980's WWF recently which I used to enjoy as a kid and also been enjoying some old Wrestlefest arcade action too, however looking for something with a bit of a newer engine.

I loved WWE All Stars, but alas no longer have a Ps3 or 360. I have a P.C, Ps2 and GC.

I've been enjoying Ultimate Muscle on the GC, but have almost completely cained through it! And WWE Allstars Wii is pretty crap. So I'm wondering if there might be a decent WWE Ps2 game that hopefully has a roster of 'legends' e.g. Macho Man, Jake The Snake, Rick Rude etc. etc. even if it's a small roster. I have no idea about current wrestling characters and am really only interested in the face painted lardy chaps of my youth. That said I'd also like a decent wrestling game, so that and some recognisable faces would be ace! I've heard some of the Smackdown games are good, but have no idea where to start really.

    Cheers

No idea about PS2 or Cube Wraslin gmaes but if you're not adverse to MAME on the PC then you need to play WWF Wresltefest it is without a doubt the finest WWF game ever made.

Has 2 modes - Royal Rumble & Tag Team both of which are awesome & it features the ultimate cast of classic wrestlers you're ever likely to see.

Or going back slightly further then you have WWF Superstars Arcade...

Again it has an awesome roster of classics but again is only Tag Team oriented.

Both are just about the finest WWF games I ever played as a kid.

For some non WWF wrestling on MAME have a look at Konami's Main Event
It features basically the WWF rosters in slightly altered (non law suit inducing) variations & was great fun...

Not much help but hopefully gives you some ideas.

Fire pro wrestling returns is the only ps2 wrestling game you will need. It got a limited pal release I believe. I have the japanese version. You can download full packs of 80's wrestlers. Check it out.

I should have mentioned that if you have any way to play imports then King of Colloseum 2 is awesome. Has some classics to unlock as well such as Hogan and flair.

I'd advise you to sign up at fireproclub.com - they are usually friendly enough to new people. You can download save files or make the edits yourself. Be warned this game is a time sink. It's also got a fairly tricky grapple mechanic. I think you can store up to 200 edited characters and there are about 250 defaults. You can also create referees and ring logos. It's mental. Getting an English language version is probably the easiest route to take.

                  Lol missed the Wrestlefest bit
Still the best WWF game ever IMO

Lol yeah me & my bro rinsed Main Event on Holiday years back I absolutely adored it & we spent a small fortune of pocket money on it.

What would you say that I have here in my grubby mits Fire Pro Wrestling returns for the Jpn PS2???
I actually totally forgot I had it till you mentioned it.

To add the DLC for the wrestlers you need the save file, a memory card & a way to transfer the save to the memory card like a Flash drive (But they seem super expensive...if you can find one at all)

Got all the necessary transferring bumph I think, bought loads of those sort of bits when they could still be had a for a few quid or PS2 modsites etc. where still open So I'll get hold of FPW - would you give that a recommend also?

Yeah the bloody stick were always busted on the Hayling Island machine! Add to that 3-button SF2 and bad times were afoot Still beat their Golden Axe machine on about 60p though

Fire Pro Wrestling Returns on the PS2. Just get the US version.

                      Never been bettered.

Stay away from all the WWE games, all buggy ****. Allstars is okish but matches are over quick and the game balance is terrible.

If you want a decent 3D wrestling game Giant Gram 2K on the DC is the best there is imo.

They play like a 2D fighter with QCF movements etc, it has the toekn insane moves and plays like a dream imop!

I've got them for my 256 for the cab and they are just so much fun whether you're a fan of the anime or not.

                          I would indeed recommend FPWR

I hardly ever play mine though these days so if you want to borrow it for a bit give me a shout

Giant Gram is indeed ace, though in multiplayer it is poor. Plus you really need to have at least some knowledge of Japanese wrestling to get the most out of it.

On a semi related note, I have an ntsc-j ps2. How would I go about getting a save file off the internet on to it? Which gizmo do I need?
