    Sony Stereo Wireless Headset (PS3)

I know i'm not the only one who has pimped for this new item, the UK release seems to have been sketchy or in limited numbers as Amazon was sold out on pre order, some places are stating a month for delivery, though managed to nab one off Scan for around ?80.

First off, the UK box is quite generic and happy shopperish compared to the rest of the world release in blue.

Contents is just the headset and USB receiver (which I believe is RF?) and instruction book, no charging cable, uses the same one as your DS3. The actual unit is very nice, the metallic finish atop the unit adds needed sheen, on your head they feel very sturdy. Controls are easily accessible for volume and balance between voice and game sounds. The retractable mic is the weakest part, a tad flimsy with a blue LED, I had read reports that this was annoying - not found it to be so. You do like you are about to travel to the moon however with this on your head.

Sound quality: This headset can be used in either stereo or 7.1 virtual surround with a flick of a switch, you get an on-screen readout stating which sound mode you are in, and how much battery life remains. They go quite loud without distortion at the top end, so far the only issue I have encountered was a slight hiss on the bleeping noise navigating PSN, and I have had a few drop outs, apparently a symptom of having a wireless network. In game however, action is loud and clear, particularly in 7.1 mode......though while the virtual surround is evident, it's more of a wide stereo effect than you would get from a true 7.1 headset.

    Few notes:
Works on PC by just plugging in the USB dongle, both for sound and microphone. Virtual 7.1 does not work as it is defined by the PS3.
Virtual surround does not work on Bluray/DVD at all, flicking the sound mode has no effect.

Bottom line from my experience is that the quality is very good, excellent for wireless gaming and movie watching particularly late at night, and is a nice official bit of kit.

You should use the built in hiss reduction feature within the XMB for better sonics. This requires you to turn the volume to the maximum setting, so you don't want to be wearing it whilst you do it. There is no need to even extend the mic at all. It picks up perfectly fine in its fully retracted state.
    Kept you waiting, huh?

Do you mean the echo canceller under accessory settings?
