    Is Onlive worth it?

Sorry if this already has a thread, couldnt find one.

Anyway I have recently been thinking about signing up for Onlive and today i read that the its going to be avalible on the iPad soon as well as the PC which makes it even more tempting. However Im just wondering what peoples thoughts on th service are? I tried the 30 minute trial of Lord of The Rings War In The North and I was really impressed, yeah it looks muddy but my crap laptop was playing a game smoothly that it would usually probabaly fail to load and it was great.

My main question though, does it always run so well? and more importantly is it a platform thats here to stay?

I think it depends solely on your net connection. My 5MB down, 1MB up is not up to the job at all, with none of the sample games being playable.

And my 8MB 1MB 16ms connection can't get past the menu on UK servers, but is fine on US servers.
But my understanding is that if it works for you and no one else in the house is hammering the connection, then it is consistent.

Thanks. My connection is pretty fast and generally stable so I think I might go for it.

Is the controller worth getting btw?

Seriously tempted to try this on the iPad but I think I will wait until I see some more feedback from peeps on the forum about how well it operates.

I've just D/L'd the Android app for my Sony Tablet S, mainly because they said I would get the full game Lego Batman for free. However "The OnLive Game Service Marketplace is currently unavailable".

I think the one for iPad at th min is just a viewer?

Yeah the one that lets you play is out "soon" apparently, not sure how long that means.

The viewer works well so the app for playing games should work well too, as others have said it seems like the only thing that matters is your connection speed.

Had mixed experiences with the service. I've connected to broken servers a number of times where the graphics output was compromised (I have a vid of this somewhere), behaving like the Xbox360 does when it's nearing death. Other times when the output has decided to lose the red and blue channels giving a nice green filter effect. Input lag is an issue depending on the game being played - dreadful for something like Dirt 3, but perfectly acceptable for Tropico.

Is it 6 quid a month for the 100 game pack? Don't think that's too bad price wise as an all you can eat rental model (tho it is filled with quite a bit of fluff). No way I'd pay 40 quid for new releases to own mind, that concept is even worse than retail digital downloads.

                    same as marty really.

i got the micro console with a pre order of saints row the third, and i got 3months free playpack for knowing someone with a bt email address.

the play pack is quite good if you don't play many games as most are older ones so chances are you may have played them but for me i find enough to play that i will keep on paying once the 3 months run out.

i wouldn't pay full price for another game i only did for saints row for the console. but when they have a sale on i have purchased a few cheap games(and you get an extra 30% off if you subscribe to the play pack) i like the convenience of being able to play a game on the console/pc/laptop or tablet and having my save file ready to go no matter what device i play on.

the controller you get with the console is ok the sticks are quite loose though and it does feel quite cheap. you can use a 360 or ps3 controller if you want on the pc app though.

i can only see it getting better with time tbh and some of the sales they do are really good.

                      .
How do you do this? I haven't managed to getting working with any controller so far.
