    20 years later...

So it was 20 years ago this Christmas that I received my first console - my original Game Boy with Tetris and Super Mario Land. I think it was fitting that the game I played the most on Christmas Day was Tetris Axis, despite how easy the games have become since.

My favourite games in all that time have to be:
    Mario Kart Super Circuit (GBA)
    Perfect Dark (N64)
    Gotcha Force (GC)
    Animal Crossing (GC)
    Super Robot Taisen W (DS)
    Hacolife (DSiWare)
    Monster Hunter Tri (Wii)
Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD (PS3)
    Monster Hunter TriG (3DS)

I love how far gaming has come in that time and the flow of GB->GBC->GBA-(via GBA SP and GBM)->DS->3DS
Nintendo have kept me entertained and slightly poorer for two decades and will hopefully continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

Man, that Christmas day was insane.

I was a bit upset that Santa hadn't brought me a Gameboy, then there was a ring at the door and he'd brought a bike for my sister and a Gameboy for me.

I then spent the whole day playing Tetris. The. Whole. Day.

Inevitably, I could just see falling Tetriminos when I closed my eyes and tried to go to sleep!

I think Super Mario Land is brilliant too. Finding all the hidden blocks and paths was a revelation to me at the time.

Me too!! I'd had a Spectrum but hadn't really been old enough to play it properly.

Original Game Boy with Tetris & Mario Land. My brother got F1 Race with the 4way adaptor.

I remember my Dad finished Mario before me. I thought he was some kind of God to beat the game.

I think I might have got my GB in 1991 also, not totally sure.

Nintendo World Cup was my poison though.

          My Christmas hardware has been...
          1987: ZX Spectrum +1
          1989: Amiga 500
          1991: Atari Lynx
          1992: Amiga 1200
          1998: Game Boy Color
          1996: Wii

On reflection, I received less hardware as seasonal presents than I remember. (And the Speccy and Amigas might not count, as they were 'family' presents, i.e. my dad bought them and used his children as an excuse. ) Still, the Spectrum has to be literally the more life-changing Christmas present I've ever had. I'd had computers in the house at an earlier age from year 0, but my dad had bought loser formats until then, the Jupiter Ace and so on. The Spectrum was the first machine with plenty of games available, and available cheap. I soon became the inexhaustible games addict I still am to this day.

I think I got my Game Boy for my birthday, 1990, and the following Christmases brought me and my brother Home Alone 2 and Gremlins 2, Jurassic Park, Chessmaster, Lemmings, Ms Pacman, etc. Mostly crap, but good memories nonetheless. I'm sure everyone here understands the excitement at the time and the nostalgia now, of what is clearly a wrapped Game Boy Game sitting under the tree.

I opened Super Mario Land before the Game Boy! I was like..huh? OH!!
Running along the top of that one level on SML until just before the end! Oh the memories!

My all time high on classic Tetris marathon (starting at level 0 of course) is level 18 and 182 lines. I've not bested that score since! Gotten to level 16 a couple of times but never past it.

I got an Atari Lynx despite asking for a Game Boy. LOL
                Kept you waiting, huh?

Christmas 1987, NES Action Pack: 2 pads, 1 Zapper, Super Mario Bros. and Duck on the same cartridge. Later that day my parents gave me the first Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles game...and after a couple of days I switched back to SMB.

It will be 25 years next year and I'll get a Famicom and a Disk System to celebrate.

And I've just realized the next year will mark the 20th year of my Super Nintendo. I can't recall when my parents got me the GameBoy because it was monopolized by my father who wanted to play Tetris whenever possible.

Got a Pocket on release. Yippee~

Wave Race and Metroid 2 all day long.

I remember not progressing past the first part of Metroid 2 for almost a year because I didn't realise you could shoot down.

I had my Christmas ruined one year the same way. Worst thing was, the Lynx was already on clearance in a lot of retailers by then, and getting the games was difficult. Had to look in dodgy secondhand shops to find any, not that there was anything I really wanted to play.

                            ^ THIS!

When I was about 8-ish though we had a big family xmas in North Wales and played Dr Mario on my cousins Gameboy pretty much the whole week, that was my first/only gaming experience until my friend in Sixth form got a Wii and Twilight Princess <3

Only 3 tmes have i ended up with consoles for xmas.

First time was when i got a NES & SMB3

Then it was the launch of the DS in Japan, Yakumo got me a launch model with 8 games, god that was a fun xmas. It arrived only a few days after it had been released so i got to enjoy all the launch excitement.

The last time was my Japanese Wii, once again Yakumo very kindly preordered me one & then went to pick it up on launch day with a loads of games & accessories, then quickly sent it off so it got to me before xmas. So that xmas i ended up going to a games meet with crisprapper & phillai at Mr Fallows burnley pad, playing wii on a massive projector all evening & early hours of the morning was brill. Playing made in wario with a room full of people was awesome.
