now i have played lord of the rings/dc univerese/rift/star trek online dc univeres i have played a lot its good fun quests seem more story based then most

thing is with all these online games i think if you were to strip out the online aspect and have them as single player would realise there is not actually to much to the gameplay at all

I disagree with that. Having played alot of MMO's recently I can safley say that many of them have lots of hidden depth to the gameplay.

Rift is fantastic, it has amazing depth.

Didnt think much of any of the other games you mentioned however.

DC universe is pretty awful if you go into it having played some of the better games in the genre, its funny becuase back when the PS3 beta came out I quite enjoyed it, but now I can see how much it lacks.

I'm a Star Trek fan so I recently jumped at the chance to play Star Trek Online for free.

Sadly, l just couldn't get into it at all. Thought it was pretty awful to be honest.

I'm only speaking for WoW but there is actually tons of depth behind he mechanics, which is how that carries over to the PvP and creates professional gaming leagues with skill curves akin to what you'd normally see in fighting games or FPSs. Taking away multiplayer from a multi-player game and then criticising it is like taking away the multiplayer from Quake 3, Counter Strike or even Street Fighter and saying they have no gameplay as a result, which of course would be mostly true.

well have heard there are a few mmorpgs that do a bit more with the combat (like a timing based attack system ) think someone said to me conan did that and i could have sworn i saw on youtube a mmorpg that had a almost devil may cry type of combat

ahh wasent just soley focusing on the combat when i meant if they were just single player was also talking about the repetive nature of the quests and the very little story and characterisation (though would admit there was a few good parts in WOW )

thing is with a lot of mmorpgs could quite easily play it without having to actually intereact with any other players (heard that the new star wars game was like that but the story is pretty good dunno i thats true)

SWTOR has full Voiced acted story sequences, it's pretty much Knights Of The Old Republic 3

The combat in these games usually requires a lot of skill, you need to know your role and you need to handle a lot of different abilities.

The quests are actually much like the ones in many single player RPGs. Every quest may be a fetch quest or a kill quest, but then so are the quests in Skyrim, that's just what RPG's are in general really, be it single or multiplayer.

I've played WoW and Eve (mostly solo) for 2 months each - loved them both but couldn't commit the kind of game time they required to feel like value for money or like I was having some impact.

I liked the drop in / drop out nature of Guild wars when it first came out but found the classes to be very unbalanced to the point of frustration.

Me too, it sounds like it doesn't have all the **** bits of your normal MMO, almost sounded like a super giant online co-op game

Doesnt the Secret World not have leveling up?

Surley leveling up and unlocking abilities has to be considered one of the best things about these games.

Only if you have no imagination.

The thing that bores me the most with MMOs is that they all feature the same boring set of conventions. I'd argue It's a stale genre where barely anything has changed been refined or streamlined in the last 15 years.

I welcome any developer that attempts to take a player populated persistent world and does more with it than just makes the game a bog grind fest.

^^ agree with this I just don't have the spare time to grind my way to an insane level cap

I have to disagree, I spent about 0.002% of my time on WoW leveling up and unlocking stuff.

The rest of my time was spent having lolz like this:

I started playing eve online about 15 days ago.
Is this not the most complex game ever?! However I've been persisting with it and now I'm starting to feel there's something in there that could be amazing. I like the way you can level up skills without logging in all the time and be able to leave them ticking over while you're away.

That's the worst thing about eve imo...how are you ever going to catch up with people who have been playing for years?
