    Android Gaming Tablet

I ordered one of these the other day. Its missing shoulder buttons but looks excelent otherwise. Pretty beefy spec with an A9 processor and Mali 400 gfx. I went for capacative screen version for ?109 delivered. There is a resistive screen version cheaper at about ?90. I will post impressions when it arrives:

Wow, that looks great for the price, look forward to hearing your take on it.

That definitely looks interesting. And the way of the future of course - remove all game controls and the realise, actually those controls worked pretty well. Look forward to your impressions.

Not mad about the PS-style buttons/D-pad but it could be a steal for ?109. A few of us at university are looking at Android development for third-year projects next year, so this could be very handy if it's any good.

yeah man ditto the other comments! I think it looks like a cool piece of kit. I'm personally wanting the Asus Transformer Prime, but of course its not as portable nor does it have controls. That's where the icontrolpad comes in, can use it with my Galaxy Nexus and the Transformer.

Nice. I should look into using a PS3 controller with my Nexus S or my Transformer (not Prime).

I have enough games already though.

Been using an old sixaxis with my eeepad, using an app called sixaxis controller, works really well and allows you to set up individual profiles for each of your games so you can tweak the controls, it's a paid app but well worth the money.

Hi chaps. I found an unboxing of this on YouTube. I can't work out how to embed so here is the link

I ordered a black one and judging from this video I think its nicer than white
Also I spotted on apad tv forum that this has been rooted and market is working

Mine is due this week or early next week. Can't wait to get cracking with it. It should keep me occupied until Vita is out

Hi MB, I got an xperia play from O2 last year for 150 so can do direct comparisons when this baby arrives. Personally the screen size on this made it worth owning alongside the XP. I bought a 3G HTC Flyer at Xmas which plays shadowgun silky smooth so can also compare to that. I have more bloody tablets than Boots pharmacy counter!

Ps Alan, clean your inbox I tried to PM you and its full

This arrived this afternoon, good service from chinagrabber cos I only ordered a week ago.
Inside the box is an asian powerpack with UK adaptor, standard USB cable, USB host adaptor and some cheap in ear headphones.
The tablet itself feels very solid and looks very nice. It doesnt bely its cheap price on the overall finish, with a nice rear panel and sold feeling buttons. The screen is the capacative version and works well with pinch to zoom on browsing. Its not got a glass plating but is a softscreen that is slightly recessed.

The Android front end on default software is a bit clunky. There are three main pages. The front page has shortcuts to e-mail, camera, web browser and some chinese pre installed software I am not familar with. I tried to remove the shortcuts to these but was given an error message about asthetics! Above these shortcuts are scrollable shortcut bars to games and videos. The video programs in this list are all chinese again, except for the default android video player. Again, no way to change the shortcutted programs. The games shortcuts shows the high profile market games it comes pre installed with, more on that in a moment.

Sliding to the right shows a screen with tabs down the right hand side. The tabs refer to things like Social, Media, Work etc. Tapping on a tab shows apps relevant to the topic, e.g. Social has Skype, Facebook and chinese variations of them.

Sliding to the left shows the games screen. The reason I bought this! Down the left hand side are the following categories:
Touch Games, Gravity Games, Arcade Games, Nintendo 3D, PS1 Games, GBA/MD/NES and Favourite.

Under touch games are Angry Birds Rio, Plants Vs Zombies, Fruit Ninja, Samurai 2, Fieldrunners Cut The Rope and a few more of the most popular market place games. I opened Samurai and it had a "cracked by" notice on the boot up screen...just so you know where these games are coming from! Anyway Samurai 2 plays very smoothly. I started playing with touch buttons but noticed the joystick on the device works to move the character. This makes it a lot easier and more fun to play. I couldnt get it to register any button presses though so used the touch screen for attacking. This game is quite graphically intense and this tablet handled it without breaking a sweat. Angry Birds Rio also played super smooth. The capacative screen really makes it nice to play.

Next is Gravity Games. In here are Asphalt 5, Labyrinth 3D, Hungry Shark and a few others. Asphalt plays very smoothly and the tilt sensor worked a treat for steering. Same with Labyrinth, nice sharp control.

Arcade Game. In here is the Mame4all game list that is pre installed. Only tried Marvel Vs Capcom and Metal Slug but both ran full speed, with audio and the buttons and joystick worked a treat. This is probably the most enjoyable session of Metal Slug I have had on a portable device. It just feels right. The Joystick is nice and responsive and the buttons are nice and large, and that screen really pops out the detail of the handrawn graphics. I think this is a perfect machione for NEO GEO enthusiasts. MVC was nice to play on a big scren also but obviously was slightly hampered by the lack of shoulder buttons. I guess I can map the start and select just below the action buttons. I will try that in future.

Nintendo 3D. This is N64oid, not 3DS! I had a go on Mario 64 and even though the joystick on this device is not analogue it is again, the best time I have had with this game on a portable, and easily since I played the original on N64. Controling Mario is very easy and I soon forgot I was playing an emulated version of the game. I blazed straight up the mountain and got the first star like I used to on the N64 version. There are some defects on the gfx here and there on shadows but nothing to ruin the experience. Cant wait to get Star Was Episode 1 Racer loaded on this.

PS1 Games. In here there are icons for Tomb Raider, Dino Crisis, RR4, Metal Slug, Twisted Metal and a couple others I cant recognise. I think one of them is the sub game shown on the youtube video on page 1 of this thread. I clicked on Tomb Raider and it asked me if I wanted to download the game. I clicked yes and it slllooooowly started to download but errored about 2 hours later at 94%. I will come back to this at a later date.

I havent tried the GBA/MD/NES section at all yet. I will post comments when I do.

Overall for the price I paid I am very happy with this machine. The controls work a treat and its a potent emulation device, not to mention a nice size for video playback. Throw in HDMI out, which I havnt tried yet, and I think its a keeper for me.

Superb write-up Dave. I'm interested. Some battery life info would be nice once you've had a chance to analyse that. Also, Android Market?
