    Your gaming life in pictures

Thought it might be fun to see people's journeys through gaming. Just punctuate key moments with small pictures. Add a bit of text to help the flow. Anyway, here's mine for anyone interested:

    Combat : Atari 2600 (my cousin's)
Wow. Mum, can I have one for xmas?

    and then

    Draughts : ZX81 (my next door neighbour's)
Mum, can I have one of these then?

    B17 Bomber - Intellivision (my girlfriend's)
    OMG it can talk!

    Jetpac : Vic-20 (mine)

Kung Fu Master : Arcade (Maldon promenade, Essex)
    Much money wasted here

Stunt Car Racer : Amiga (mine)
    Solid 3d polygons!

Street Fighter II : Arcade (college student bar)
    which led to:

Street Fighter II : SNES (mine)
    So I discovered:

Super Mario Kart : SNES (mine)
So of course I had to get:

    Mario 64 : N64 (mine)

    Return Fire : 3do (mine)

    Tekken 3 : PS1 (mine)

    Quake : PC (mine)

    Metal Gear Solid 2 : PS2 (mine)

    Halo CE : XBox (mine)

    Metroid Prime : Gamecube (mine)

    Metal Gear Solid 4 : PS3 (mine)

And that brings me up to date with:

    Skyrim : PC (mine)

Sonic The Hedgehog (Master System) - my older sister bought it for her then boyfriend for Christmas. Probably the first videogame I ever played. And I LOVED it.

Commander Keen Episode 1: Marooned on Mars (PC/DOS) - this was already installed on a laptop my Dad received from work in the early 90s. Infuriatingly difficult at the age I was then but actually very cleverly designed. Keen is underrated.

Crash Bandicoot (PlayStation) - one of the most memorable games I received early on for the first gaming system I could really call my own. Triangle triangle triangle SUPER CODE

Super Mario Land 2 - 6 Golden Coins (Gameboy) - I received my first Gameboy with this and the first Mario Land. I loved that too, but this really shone with its proper world map, vastly improved graphics and battery save. Who can forget the bunny ears?

Pok?mon Blue Version (Gameboy) - one of the games that defined my childhood. I was dangerously obsessed with the pocket monsters and played the game constantly whether I was at home or at school, much to my parents' exasperation. Link up battles and trades on the playground, hours alone at home grinding. It was all worth it!

Metal Gear Solid (PlayStation) - totally blew me away, a non stop thrill ride that I played through over and over again with a mate. Still don't get most of the rubbish Naomi was spouting about genes at the end.

Ridge Racer Type 4 (PlayStation) - I'd played the earlier games but they'd never really 'clicked' with me. This one was just so compelling though, from the charming hand drawn pep talks from your team manager to the funky lounge jazz soundtrack. The graphics at the time were amazing too - how about that observatory?

Shenmue (Dreamcast) - Probably my favourite game ever. One of the most stunning games of all time in my view, I spent a summer holiday wrapped up in Ryo's revenge saga. I really felt like I was him!

Rez (Dreamcast) - an amazing fusion of shooting and music that showed me what videogames could be outside of mere competition or narrative. Still play it all the time, Rez HD is wicked.

REmake (GameCube) - Awkward controls, fixed camera angles and a glacial pace are part of what makes this one of the most influential games I've played. You really are scared of running into a zombie because you can only aim in three different directions. Never clicked on PS but I just loved the style of this.

Grand Theft Auto III (PS2) - There's not much to say about this except that at the time, I found it almost overwhelming. Only being able to get 125 HP from shagging a prostitute was a masterstroke. Being able to beat her up and take the cash back afterwards was the icing on the cake. The most freedom I'd felt in a game since Shenmue.

Oblivion (Xbox 360) - I seem to have an obsession with freedom in games. I spent over 150 hours in the land of Cyrodiil, and rarely have I been so engrossed in anything. At the time the graphics and scope of the game seemed unbelievable, especially as I was never a PC gamer. (Haven't had the chance to play Skyrim yet :/)

Can't think of any more right now.

Flying Shark, my first game ever, in a bar facing the sea at Roseto degli Abruzzi

And then Super Mario Bros., included in a NES Action Pack.

      Konami's arcade tien-in of Aliens.

A-10 Tank Killer, PC. My first flight simulation ever.

MegaMan X on the SNES; I had to change my adapter to play it.

MechWarrior 2, PC. Hello, second part of my nickname.

Super Mario Kart has already been mentioned...

Tie Fighter CD collection. Never been a huge fan of Star Wars but it was a bliss to play, despite continuously losing joystick calibration.

Mario 64 has already been mentioned...

      Homeworld, PC.

      Falcon 4.0, PC

Mario Sunshine, bought this with my first paycheck along a black GC.

Etrian Odyssey, DS. Mhmmm, dungeon crawling.

      And of course BlazBlue

        Speccy gets me going with

Treasure Island and Oh Mummy! instead of using it to help with school (don't know how that would have worked )

couple of christmas after that came the first console, master system from which i only fondly remember 2 games
        Alex kidd

        and
        World Cup 90

After that i spent years in envy of my cus's amiga 500, and managed to one up him(IMO back then, not now) by getting a mega drive after seeing Sonic 1 played in the local indie store next my primary school.

everything else i got was rented from the local video store collection every other week for a few pounds, of the few games i did get for for birthday and christmas i remember Herzog Zwei and Gunstar Heroes the most.

Few years after that i got snes but just before the playstation was previewed everywhere so most of it was "16bit done that, been there" thanks to a friend owning a snes with mario kart and striker, about the only other highlight was Sensible world of soccer on the amiga500+, having 4 player leagues with me using a megadrive pad plugged in.

32-era saw me begging mum/dad for a playstation after a new indie shop had the arcade for Tekken in there which made up my mind right away which machine to ask for, andi wasn't disappointed.

missing out on most of the snes-era meant alack of insight into J-rpg's outside of shining force so FF7 blew my mind and made me a bit of SE-fanboy.

and the internet namei use most often came from my fav fighter SE produced.

but before my first import game came a PAL N64 with mario64, but more importantly WCW vs NWO the start of a legendary triple whammy of AKI games(discounting Psone World tour)

And getting my 1st powerful pc, let us(me and my friends) explore the world of emulation and more specifically japanese SNES wrestling game downloaded over the college internet and zipped up on to floppy disks to take home... which lead my in a massive fanboy of Humans/Spikes Firepro games and then i got word Fire Pro G was coming i got my Psone modded and brought from hanleys Fantasy World for ?60 with money from my ****ty night club bar job, i went up 2 times on a a 2 hour return journey bus ride because it was in onthe day the employee said it would be.. was worth it and the investment into a mutlitap for 4 players..

Next gaming moment deciding to get a dreamcast or ps2, and after seeing powerstone i broke down and got one after being a sony fan for along time with the Psone, which also paid off straight away with Soul Calibur and then my fav dreamcast game among the many released... shenmue.

after that years with a dreamcast i went straight into xbox1 and Halo, skipping the Ps2 for another 2/3 years until Fire Pro Z was released. Anyway Halo was fantastic (as was amped 1 and ralisport 1 releases to)

then the biggest game to impact my life, most likely negatively to...

FINAL FANTASY 11 on the PC...

        and the old NTSC crew

(not featured, djTickle many apologies, couldn't find a pic)

Cool thread. Looking at some of the pictures brings back many memories. It's also serves as a reminder how far games have come. I remember, during the loading screens for games on the Atari ST, imagining if one day games would ever look like that in realtime. But boy, they surpassed that ages ago.
