It's just a standard model for public use, it's true that the brown box is the only distinct thing about it. It's possible that it'll retain some value but my guess is that it won't. If it was a prototype or something more rare then maybe but once the price drops (which is pretty likely) the extra will probably still leave a short fall. In the end, it's most likely to still be paying extra for hardly any time advantage at all.

The brown box is basically non retail packaging. Sony debug consoles etc come in the same kind of box.

It's definitely not a prototype, or it wouldn't have the box. It's a collectors piece, nothing more or less.

It even says Marketing Sample on the box. All it is, is a standard Vita that would be sent out to stores to be used as a display model in a glass case or window display etc.

That's also why it comes with the largest capacity memory card. So that it can be filled with various demos for people to view in order to get them to part with their cash.

As for this eBay sale, can't demos be downloaded online to play on the machine at the mo? So the buyer can actually play games as soon as he gets it right?

It's a demo/review unit. I have the exact same one, Sony sent them out to various publications last week. The box is same and everything. It says "not for sale" on the back of the unit, the ebay seller doesn't show that in any of his images. Mine came with a two pin plug though, I guess Sony got a few 3 pin plugs sorted for events, makes sense.

Going by his wristband, the ebay seller was at the VIP launch party in Manchester (was January 13th I think), which was attended by a few celebrities, footballers and so on. I believe a few of them were given a unit to take home for free, make of that what you will.

Aww, I feel the love. Thanks, capcom. Have a bit more free time on my hands these days, so will be posting when I can.

Staying on topic, should've mentioned ?362 with a 16GB memory stick for a system that isn't out here yet is not bad at all. Sure, the person paid a little over the odds, but will probably be happy with it.
