I saw a man past midnight, whose time for games was running out.

All my friend wanted was a simple, get-rid-of-it-on-Craigslist estimate for an original Xbox, two controllers, and about a dozen games. He knew that what he had was too common in its time, too obsolete in the present, to qualify as some latter-day Antiques Roadshow jackpot. Still, I couldn't bring myself to appraise…

QUOTE: With my friend's Xbox, his gaming career is compact enough that it truly does tell a story. He and I have known each other more than a decade, and I've shared, as close friends do, in his and his wife's lifetime milestones over that time: moves, professional accomplishments, family celebrations. But here I saw him in a new light. I caught a glimpse of my friend transiting from his late 20s to his early 30s, from fianc? to husband to father. I saw a man past midnight, whose time for games was running out.

Well for me at least this really struck a chord.

Big love to all the other Bordersdown members who's life journey has reduced their gametime.

I read that last night, was quite a sweet article.

It was almost like feeling someone else's nostalgia.

That really struck a chord with me too Capcom, thanks for linking that.

I’ve had more than enough time for games throughout my life but when I hit my 20’s, work obviously became a factor. As the years went on, I sold my collection to just focus on playing games and not a display case. Now I find myself in a serious relationship with my girlfriend and suddenly my playtime has dropped to a few hours a week, here and there.

I’m very happy where I am, but a Gears of War 3 Horde session with a mate last weekend, coupled with sitting in on my brother playing my copy of Forza 4 enthusing about games and now that article, really brings home how little time I have for my hobby at the moment.

I work in the industry and adore Videogames so that will never change, but I do miss how much I used to play and complete them.

I don't often read Kotaku, but that was a great article

Superb stuff, puts gaming into perspective.

Really? I read it and thought: Christ, his mate had a naff taste in games.

No Otogi? No Jet Set Radio Future? No Panzer Dragoon Orta? No modchip to enable pixel-perfect emulation? And where's the Steel Battalion controller, which every self-respecting Xbox owner has?

            Pfft, rubbish.

Not sure I read this properly. All I got from it was that the writer was being super creepy by trawling somebodies hard drive. That's a bit like going through a neighbours bin and getting sentimental over a thrown away Xmas card.

Be thankful it wasn't a laptops internet history. He might have gotten to know his friend a little too well...

One of my fantasies, should we ever end up in an apocalypse, is to go into the houses of dead people and root around through their papers and files and photo albums, and build up an understanding of them, maybe even invent fake histories, and then after several years of this pretend to be the fake characters I've invented in these houses and then write and post letters to each other.

It was a great plan until my brother pointed out that no one would collect the post left in post boxes after an apocalypse. I just explained that they would become like time capsules, should aliens visit our dead world and go through everything, they would find a totally fictional series of people writing letters to each other that were never delivered!

Quite possibly the most worrying thing I've ever read online!

Perhaps, but what else are you going to do after an apocalypse? I suppose I could read a book.

                          Not the fake letters bit.
