PTE 16: Playstation Vita - Moment of Truth

Way back in September we did a poll to see how interested everyone was in picking up the PSVita. Results were a little on the 50/50 side, however several months later and the Japanese launch has come and gone and the US/UK releases are less than 3 weeks away.

Having seen more on the games that have made it out into the wilds, the middling to slightly low impact in Japan and now the final decisive moment being upon us, where do you stand now on the Playstation Vita?

Apparently I voted last time that I'd import one which never happened so it took a slight knock from me. Vita's a funny thing for me, I'm not actually feeling excited for the launch at all. I find that Uncharted is the only stand out title at launch (Gravity Daze might change this by the looks) but is so soon after UC3 the shine isn't there. One thing is for sure, had I not had so much trade value I wouldn't be buying one. The memory card situation was an outright deal breaker too but thankfully I'm looking at ?60 now for the system, memory and 6-8 games. I think I'm going to love the hardware but I'm expecting a rougher ride than the 3DS even gave for releases.

The hardware looks ace, but with unplayed DS games still, and a PSP (Everybody's Golf) that get occasional use I don't really see the need for another dedicated handheld. The urge to get a 3DS is stronger, simply because of MK7.

So final answer chosen in the poll.

Vita ****ing sucks. It's the most unreliable piece of hardware ever to come out of Sony. I've had to dismantle it over five times due to random crashing. I am seriously considering ****ing it off and waiting on Vita Slim and Lite.
          Kept you waiting, huh?

Currently not interested, waiting for games. If any interesting game comes out, I'll snatch a Wi-fi model.

              I needed three votes.

Imported a wifi, I think it's an awesome little handheld. BUT, i've sold the import to replace with a PAL unit on the 22nd. (Pre-ordered on Amazons great deal)

Currently not interested due to J0e's experiences with the hardware. Surprised everyone else is ignoring what seems to be a fairly crippling issue with the hardware.

I never experienced any issues at all with the one I imported to be fair.

Ok, well perhaps I'll pick one up from HMV or Argos. That way if I get J0e's problems I can just return it. I like to support my indie but I'd hate her to have the hassle of repeatedly having to handle faulty Vita's.

I'm quite sure it'll be sorted out eventually with a firmware update, but I've experienced nothing but trouble. It's an awesome piece of technology, but for me there are massive shortcomings, and I'd never write off Sony.

I got a wee shot of one yesterday and although I can't give a proper fully formed opinion I really like the form of the machine. The screen is amazing and the analogue nubs are a step forward as well. There is no way I'd pay full whack for one, but it is a smart machine.

Me neither and the missus has totally hammered it isn't J0e's the 3G version?

Wipeout is mildly interesting, Uncharted does nothing for me and Ridge is bare bones. Personally I think the launch is pretty weak, much like the 3DS and as a result i'm not interested.
                            Stunning little machine though.

The non-hot-swappable memory card issue that can brick a Vita, which it's own recovery menu cannot fix is a dangerous thing IMO. Kids are gonna get bought these for birthdays and Christmas after all. There is no actual manual in the box, that states the things that you NEED to know.
