First, Schafer had done an interview stating how having recovered the rights to the original, Double Fine had shopped the idea of a sequel around but no publisher would touch it meaning they couldn't make one.
Then, via twitter, Marcus Persson the creator of Minecraft said that in order to see a sequel get made he'd be willing to personally fund it from his own fortune.
A Double Fine spokesperson has now confirmed that Schafer and Persson are now in talks about actually moving ahead and making the game
Presumably it would be a D/L title in a similar mould to the original rather than a full blown major release, but if it happens its none the less an interesting way to get a game made.
