Saw on the Raspberry Pi Forums that two people have gotten their deliveries from RS only for there to be no Raspberry Pi in the box.

How much did you guys pay for these? Very interested to see how these are implemented in the future with the schools etc, as I know the primary schools could benefit greatly from this sort of tech.

Probably the two Pi that were donated to the school I visited on Monday

Actually got to try the kit out as RS was providing a demo to the kids, and I'm quietly impressed.

Trying to get this thing up and running takes some patience - it is in no way ready to deploy in to schools as a teaching device.

I would recommend they supply the PSU and SD card too for schools as these are causing a few RMAs at the moment where there is probably nothing wrong.

I managed to get the Debian build up and running pretty quickly but the XBMC seems to be very finicky about the SD card it's using.

The biggest hurdle I think will be people booting this up and being presented with a login prompt and then a command line - but it's probably about time people started learning how to use a bare bones system. I like the idea, it's a shame that the mainstream press the Pi has garnered portrays it as a cheap PC, because that's not what it's about at all, and anyone expecting that is going to be disappointed and confused.

I got mine delivered last week and use my android phone charger to power it.

The install of Debian was fairly straightforward and the hdmi display and compact keyboard with trackball worked first time. However this needs a lot of optimization but this is acknowledged - it is a developer release at the moment after all.

My main interest in this at the moment is the possibility of using at a thin client device - already seen citrix client running on it - very cheap thin client if it works well.

Yeah, one of the parents at the presentation (who has the Pi on order) asked about simplifying matters, and the guy from RS said they will be looking to sell the unit packaged with power supply and OS already set up on SD card in the near future.

Me again! I have to say again, why could primary schools benefit? Putting a limited linux based geek circuit board in the hands of 9 year olds and teachers who are specialists in reading stories aloud, phonics, times tables and sticking things together will not bring anything useful to primary education. THIS or things similar could. Even in secondary this ain't going to change the world but it's still a cool little thing.
