    Darkstalkers 4

I know Darkstalkers 4 talk has been about for a while but this looks like it could be a rumour with some validity due to the source.

Wouldn't surprise me, Ono's been after it for ages. Not that fussed personally, it's like MvC3, throw away fun but with half the appeal.

Wash your mouth out son! Darkstalkers is eighty times the game that MvC3 is.

Is this is the same series as the Vampire Chronicles game on Dreamcast? I loved that.

One and the same. That was like a compendium of the three games in ones shell, much like the anniversary edition of Street Fighter 2.

              Indeed it is.

I'd love a new Darkstalkers, even more so if it was going to be 2D BlazBlue style hi-res sprites.

I did enjoy the old entries, especially Chronicles on DC, but it was never up to Capcoms other series.

                ... go on then.

i doubt the new version will ever capture the older darkstalkers/vampire chronicles flavour, if the newer versions of capcoms fighters are any thing to go by. SF 4 ruined the direction of 2d fighters IMO - Vampire saviour and SFIII are the pinicle of the 2d era

Loving the comments on that site hoping for a 2D HD thingy. Yeah, right. They'd be idiots to go down that route

I read an article before and the guy talks about Darkstalkers characters in 3D:

"Darkstalkers characters are all complete memory hunger-mad characters because they constantly transform into things. They can?t just walk ? they have to change into something when they move and it just uses a lot of data."

Makes sense when you think about it - individual frames of a sprite won't take up any more memory if the sprite is completely redrawn(but within the same dimensions) but you'd have to replace the 3D model with another one and store both in RAM.

However, this talk of it being based on the SFxTekken engine is interesting. Maybe something they did with that has knocked down a few technical barriers? Either that or it'll be on the next-gen consoles which'll have a bunch more RAM. I expect it will.

Totally agree with this, no other fighting game has ever had such an amazing cast as Vampire Saviour in my opinion. The artistry and designs were incredible and I always found it way more fun than any other SF2 variant with more more interesting variety. I don't see how a 3D imagining of those characters would ever manage to re-capture the soul of those sprites.

So, apparently Darkstalkers 4: Vampire Resurrection is in the early stages of development. Yoshinori Ono can't reveal too much, otherwise he might get in trouble.

It looks like a new Darkstalkers is definitely coming, unfortunately it's apparently using a modified version of the SFxT engine.

I suppose the real question now is whether Capcom are going to wait until the next gen machines to release this. Considering the PS4 may well be out next Xmas, they could have this ready as a launch title. If the new consoles aren't going to be out next year, then it's a definite PS3/360 game.

Why's the SFxT engine unfortunate? Is it bad, or is it just because it's 3D and not 2D sprites?

Wow every Capcom fighter is going to look exactly the same this gen.
