So you'll rant publicly about the company's greed, and then you go in there to try and haggle a cheap PS3 with store staff facing unemployment? Real classy.

Oh, as opposed to the consoles sitting on the shelf going unsold you mean? What would you have done with them?

They had new PS3s sitting there, literally gathering dust for almost ?300 - who in their right ****ing mind would pay that much for one with the company on its last legs?

They'd probably rather not sell them. A liquidator can use them as asset to sell on at auction and recoup some cash.

Then why not do that with the stock they were shifting at ?99? Auction buyers aren't going to give two ****s about outdated SKUs surely? Hell, I even offered them more than ?99 for the solus 320GB console I wanted.

i'm the king of cheapness (not lowballing you understand) and even i wouldnt have done that lol

selling the 320GB with Uncharted 3/Faster for ?150 is an incredible price, but im sure they've probably all gone

remember people going mad when Tesco had them for ?229 with a ?10 direct voucher taking it to ?219

It's a sorry state of affairs this - 10,000 jobs being lost is something folk should try and comprehend for a minute or two.

They might do a lot of wrong in some peoples eyes, but to lose a presence like this on the high street is not good.

Maybe at this point I should mention (before I become universally despised) that I'm on fairly good terms with the staff in the store I was trying it on in (they know me by name in there and it's tragically one of the few of the many stores in the country I've been in where I'm assured a nice, friendly and professional service) they just assumed I was being funny and I guess to an extent I was.

My 'dislike' for the company I guess you could call it stems from about 85% of the service I've received from other stores and online.

Sounds like the old "in fact, some of my friends are black/gay" turnaround

To be fair, I'd have probably tried it on in any store. Just open with a "So I hear your group is selling off PS3 slims for ?99 in certain stores depending on stock" and then a rather jokingly "I don't suppose you'd sell me one for ?99 would you, nudge nudge smiley face" making sure they knew I was joking or if they genuinely wanted to sell them at ?99 then that would probably invite the appropriate response of "Why as it happens we have this PS3 slim at ?99 right here, yours if you want one"

Still, if I visited one of the stores I received a shoddy and unprofessional service in, I would probably have the nerve to open up with a genuine barter. "That dust ridden PS3 slim isn't going anywhere at ?300, have heard certain stores are selling them complete with game for ?99, would you take that for it?" and when I undoubtedly get refused, I'd put my small army of credit cards away, much to the displeasure of the drooling chap or chapess behind the counter and say "ok, thanks anyway. I might see what amazon or play are doing them for"

No I was only messin whitcha .

If I was there I'd be doing the same probably. Give it a shot & see what happens. You wont get if you dont ask.

I dunno why a lot on here seem to have this 'poor GAME staff sob sob sob' attitude anyway. I've been made redundant & nobody gave a toss, & nor did I expect anyones sympathy either. When the company sold off its goods for next to nothing people just got what they could out of us & that was that.

GAME f*cked up. They got cocky & greedy, & refused to move with the times. Its just a shame that its the staff that will always suffer, while the bigwigs will probably just walk straight into a similar job & bugger that company up too.

they're probably more worried about keeping a job than a solitary sale from a big shot like yourself.

Isn't half the problem that they aren't making enough sales and hence in danger of losing their jobs?

Seems OpCapita (owners of Comet) are interested in acquiring GAME now by the sound of things according to digitalspy http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/n...-opcapita.html

Not sure how I'd feel about it no longer being a games only store, would they keep the name intact? I guess the advantage to selling other stuff though is that it will allow them pass on savings due to sales of other goods.

While I agree with you on price they won't sell at ?300 it's a bit cheeky and ballsy to try and haggle with a guy that probably has days left in there current employment, fact of the matter is if it's new the warranty is with Sony anyways now if they tried to sell you the extended warranty then I would laugh but ?99 for a 320gb even at ?149 they are decent. The guys in the store I was in didn't know about the discounted SKU they had 5 of the 99.98 ps3's there was 5 staff I happily relinquished them for them to get so at least they can make a few quid out of the company before they get booted out of the door
