    HMV Swap Shop

So I was in a HMV today and I'm sure everyone knows about the replay game trade in well it looks like they have decided to extend it to DVD, CD and BLU in the one I was in there was a flat rate of ?1 per CD, DVD, BLU bit cheap until I noticed they were only selling them for ?2 each still 100% profit for them but a lot fairer than that Music Magpie rubbish.

This might be a trial I'm not sure if it's nationwide yet (metro centre store)

That's not really 100% profit. That's selling a Blu-Ray for ?2 which, if it wasn't there, you might sell a new copy of for ?10-15. It's an insane business model. Sounds awesome for the customer though, gotta love cheap stuff.

Sounds pretty good to me. Blocky only offer between 10p - 80p for most DVDs

What about box sets? I have a 36 disc box set I need to sell. It's worth quite a bit and is in mint condition-ish but I will probably get way under what it's probably worth anywhere else.

I have 100's of CD's and DVD's I don't want, this would be an absolute winner if true.

And why would I lie to you there are 2 catches from what I can see. 1)managers discretion so they won't take in any old ****e, 2) store credit only other than that seems winner

Interesting... nobody's mentioned this at work. I can see how happy the DVD staff are going to be now.

Bit of a bold move after the recent support from DVD and audio suppliers, though. Not quite sure of what to make of this, as it's pretty much going to turn the chain into a giant rummage sale if it gets rolled out across the country.

Ill get a pic next time im in

I didn't check the T&C but someone mentioned it may be like the old Fopp rules (as HMV own them) trade up to max 3-5 to get ?3-?5 per item in other words has to be actually used to trade in there and then sound like crap that though so I'll ask next time I'm there what it is an the t&c

A trial started in 13 stores last week after a similar offer was previously tested with FOPP. It'll be a few months yet before it's rolled out everywhere, for one thing it requires all new unitary for each store, to ensure 40-50% additional unit racking space from the same footage.

Reduced in-store catalogue will see to that... there should be enough space left in the racking if the existing stock is consolidated into tighter sections instead of being thinly spread across the shop.

I guess they are trying to take a chunk off ebay. But like GAME, I think this will just cheapen their shop. They need to have it as a separate entity. HMVTrade or something, with it's own P&L books. Either way, this will cheapen their entire brand and send them out of business.
