    The Second Coming

I'm no expert on business economics or stuff like that but i was wonderring what would happen if Sega tried to ressurect the DC from the dead; Pumped huge ammounts of money its way, ported all manner of games for it, built upgrades and stuff...what do you think would happen? Would it be a completely fruitless exercise or might mistakes made in the past be learned upon and rectified?

Completely theoretical i know. No ones done it before as far as i can remember, i was just thinking what if.....

I thought that's what Nintendo has been doing all along with the GameCube?

Nintendo has been around, they didn't just come out of nowhere. They had to get back into the "big game". Getting back into the market. Reinvent their console. Update their technology (from carts to disk) Add more titles and support (well, the jury is still out on that one).

Anyway.....I know that's not what you were really asking, but for your last question Nintendo almost fits the bill.

Yeah, but Nintendo havent been out of the running at all ,console wise, theyve always had the Gameboy even when they didnt have a household unit in the mainstream.

They (Sega) would have to do it properly. By that I mean withdrawing all software support for any other platform, with the exception of maybe the GBA, which seems to be a bit of a little whore for any company pimping it's wares.

I'd be curious to see if Sony and the like would take them seriously, given the amount of ****-ups sega made in the past with the Saturn and the DC.

They'd go under and people would start bidding for their assets.

          That's what would happen.

          It would be a nightmare.

I could see it now SEGA would pump investors for billions on YEN, design a sort of DC1.5, promote the hell out of it for say a week, thats 6 months before launch mind you. then just turn there back on it about one week after launch. SEGA would have to have some of the worst management of all the companys within the games industry. its a shame really cause the DC wasn't that bad of a console and it has seem that it has had more success in death that in life. much like in dead musicans

It'd fail for the same reason the original DC did (ie it's not made by Sony).

Thats why i'm asking. The DC is still a popular machine so if Sega were to attach electrodes to its corpse and bring it back to life what would happen? People still buy DCs and their games. Sega wouldnt have the development costs for building a completely new console theyd just have to produce games.

I mean if a new DC title were to come out (theres one on the way isnt there?) people would buy it and thats not just DC fanboys.

What if Sega built a giant weather machine and held the world to ransom? What would happen?

What if's are all well and good but the Dreamcast died for a reason, the reason was that not enough people bought it and it was costing Sega a fortune to keep the whole show running.

The Dreamcast is too old to be of interest to gamers when they can now get a Cube or XBox with games at a decent price.

Dreamcast is dead, done with. Sega have moved on and so should Dreamcast fans. (I being one of them in case you think I'm knocking the DC just to knock the DC.)

People should be allowed to enjoy what they want, Thankfully not everyone has your defeatist "dead" attitude and its to the benefit of software and peoples enthusiastic enjoyment of a chosen past-time.

If you have moved on thats entirely your perogative but don't dictate what other people should and shouldn't do.

Wouldn't it be a great thing if a lastgen platform could live, fed with types of games that go well with it (in case of the Dreamcast: arcade perfect conversions for instance)? The market potential for an off-current-systems-niche is there, look at the resurrected TV games line in Japan, with Square Enix having successfully released Kenshin Dragon Quest.

If the existing technology of the DC could be produced cheap and sold competitively and games could be offered somewhere near budget range, people would support it, I believe. Too dreamy?
