Is this meant to be a snipe? TBH I would prefer it if everyone tried to move on a series. I am sick of Gears (pretty much by 2 it was boring) I simply cannot believe they are doing a fourth. Anyone think it will crash and burn?

I'm not a fan of the Gears series, but I do appreciate it does what it goes out to do right. Not my cup of tea... But it's still a well produced, well developed game. That cant be denied. The great thing about our industry is that we can have devs making games like Gears and Killer is Dead - on the same system. What is a shame is that sadly the majority prefer GEARS, or the CODS... It's just how things are. It's the same with music, films, books... EVERYTHING. Not saying that's right, or that i agree with it, or that it will be like that forever - but that's the reality right now.

I hope Killer is Dead will receive the same hype and excitment from others that we are sharing here, because it does look awesome.

I'm in the slightly odd position of having loved Killer 7, but having through NHM was terrible. Sadly, this looks more like the latter, abet with a less seedy protagonist.

Some info about the game from Suda. Highlights include a fight against a yakuza riding a tiger in Kyoto and "Gigolo mode" where Mondo tries his luck with the ladies.

Happy times. Thank god we don't have to wait a year or something for the translation.

Have we had any indication of how long it's been in development?

Weekly Famitsu interview Suda 51 a while back here's the quote about development.

Suda reveals that planning for the game began at the end of 2009. Actual development did not start until Spring 2011, though.

Is Suda finally directing this game himself? I don't think he's been the game director since No More Heroes 1?

Edit: Nevermind, according to Wikipedia he's both directing and writing the game. Sweet.

Originally seemed like he was going to be the main director, then the trailer came out and confirmed again he will be executive director, like he was with NMH2. He is writing the story though.
Has also been confirmed the game will feature both Japanese and English audio on disc.

Yet more proof nothing lowers the tone of a Japanese game like an English language voice track. Still, nice to see "Generic Black Guy #4" is still getting voiceover work... :/

Pretty sure I read that Western versions will also feature the Japanese track though? Certainly hope so as I intend to play the hell out of this!!!!

Some footage and small interview from Suda 51/IGN.

Some more information about the game.
Mondo is an executioner with a spy-like swagger and a robotic arm, but that is far from the strangest thing about Suda 51’s new game, Killer is Dead.

Mondo is a stylish, debonair killer who works for a government-funded agency called Bryan?s Execution Agency. As Suda 51 describes him, he?s like a darker James Bond. The world of Killer is Dead explores the relationship between the moon and the Earth, which is strange to say about a game that features a group of contract killers. However, it?s clear that something evil is happening on the dark side of the moon as some mysterious force is sending evil minions towards Earth to cause havoc.

The whole game plays out in a series of missions that are designed to emulate a season of a TV show. Each mission is self-contained but ties into a larger plot. During a demo at GDC we jumped into the middle of a mission and got to see one of Killer is Dead?s boss battles.

Victor is a villain who has the ability to steal sounds from musicians around the world. He?s been efficiently doing so as he works to build an ultimate sound that will wipe out human beings and ?purify? the planet. After Mondo works his way through the minions within Victor?s towering skyscraper, our hero confronts the evil genius himself. At first, Mondo can?t hear anything the decrepit old man says, but then he sees a pair of gold headphones over in one corner of the room. After putting on the headset, Mondo can hear Victor reveling in his Machiavellian plan to purify the planet.

Summer 2013 can't come soon enough.
