Racing games

Hiya, could I have some recommendations for the better racing games that have been released. Recommendations could be for any system and any region and from any era.

Perhaps categorise current and last gen games?

Sim like? Arcadey? Somewhere in the middle?

I always liked Metropolis Street Racer on DC (anything prior to that just hasn't aged well enough for my tastes). Current gen I'd go with RR7

So Ive not played many racers in my time, I can try and list what I have enjoyed, and perhaps some more recommendation could come from that. I wouldnt want to rule out any games based on the style, but I would say I prefer more Arcadey stuff.
I think Ive missed out on some gems, for example I have never played Daytona USA and I have never played F335 challenge.

Here are racers that I have enjoyed;

Snes - Mario Kart, Micro Machines,
GameGear - F1 Grand Prix (unsure on its exact name)
N64 - Extreme G, Lego Starwars racer (think it was lego)
PS1 - NFS Hot Persuit, Street Racer,
PS2 - TOCA, Auto Modelista,
360 - Ridge Racer 6 (played this alot, loved it)
3DS - Mario Kart 7

Ive played one of the wipeout games on the PS1 at a friends house, but never owned a wipeout game, which would be the best? I have a Vita, so possibly that version?

As I really enjoyed Ridge Racer 6 on the 360, is there a better version?

Ridge Racer 7 (PS3), pure daddy.

And Sega Rally on saturn if you want to see handling done the best.

As you like Mario Kart then I would highly recommend Blur (360,PS3).

Edit: Oh and may as well mention Mario Kart Wii! Although I hear from a lot of people that Double Dash on the Gamecube was better.

The problem with the PS2 version is the controls aren't optimised for gamepad like the Saturn version. It is very noticable, and for this reason I also prefer the Saturn version. If you intend to use a steering wheel though, it's basically flawless.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast - best racing game of the past 5 years in my eyes.

The SEGA Rally game released on XBLA was pretty damn close to how the Saturn version feels.
