Announced by Marvelous, already 81% complete and scheduled for August release. Scans and screenshots on this month's Famitsu don't show any new character, but I guess some will be revealed in the next months.

Also an anime adaptation is underway; Senran Karuga already has a comic adaptation on a monthly magazine a mere month after the release of the first game.

Cool, I liked the look of the first one but skipped it due to the high cost at the time. Kinda glad now there's a sequel due so quick. Might take the plunge this time.

One new character confirmed: Suzune. She's the teacher of the girls antagonizing the heroines of the first game.
The scenario writer, Yukinori Kitajima, said that Burst takes place right after the first game and the whole story will evolve in something darker as the mysteries left open by the first Kagura will be revealed; it has also been revealed that the playable characters will be Homura and her classmates, the bad girls from the first game.
So, yes, it will possible to control the cat gothloli with an anti-tank gun hidden beneath her skirt.
