Masahiro Sakurai has said that the key focus for the next Smash Bros game will be on connectivity between the WiiU version and the 3DS versions as adding content for each installment won't work in keeping the series going.

""There is a certain dead end we come to if we just expand the volume of the game," Sakurai told IGN. "I intend to change direction a little as we go.""

I hope connectivity extends as far as the internet, as well. SSBBrawl was terrible online but magnificent otherwise - utterly comprehensive in terms of characters, stages, unlockables, etc. Just stick some decent online onto that...

Masahiro Sakurai has said that the 36 character roster Brawl contained is probably the limit the series should stick to and so there won't be a bigger roster for the fourth entry. Instead he says the focus will be on changing the series direction. He showed a whiteboard drawing relating to the game which showed:

If all returning that's half the roster right there. Hopefully they mix things up with plenty new faces.

Peach becomes the 15th fighter in the game. Hope some interesting choices get confirmed at some point.

Massive oversight not to have cross-play IMO. They could have used this to launch the same account across all hardware.
