While I've always acknowledged the Cube's qualities, I probably didn't appreciate it as much back then as I do now. So glad that I still have my Panasonic Q (JP/US dual-boot alongside my PAL Wii).
REmake was stunning, imho.
Gonna break out some Viewtiful Joe over the weekend, with possibly some Luigi's Mansion and Wave Race: Blue Storm.

I'll visit the retro section here to find solutions. Using another TV isn't an option.
Anyhoo, I went on Freecycle to see if anyone was giving away any decent TVs and someone was offering a 25" Trinitron....aren't they meant to be alright?

The gamecube still had me saving up and getting games for Christmas etc and I loved the games all the more for it. My friends were all gamecube owners too and we used to always be round each others houses playing all the time. In fact right up until I left home we used to still meet and play Double Dash every now and then!
Thinking about it we were right Nintendo fanboys, what with the GBA and the DS later (I got my DS from Canada way before the release date, within a month my 2 best mates had imported Japanese units from lik-sang. My only real "importing days"). I remember having huge Smash Bros Melee tournaments with 12 or so of us all gathered round a tiny 14" tv, loosing days to Wind Waker with mates and alone, making sure I played Animal Crossing every day/at the specific times to get stuff, and crazy ISS 2 sessions despite the fact I'm really not into football. 4 controller ports by default made it so good for a bunch of people to play at the same time.
The great thing about it being so small and portable meant it could come with me if I ever wanted it to too what with my decent carry case! I remember getting the Wavebird despite it almost costing as much as a game and being so happy I had as it was awesome. The whole GBA link up idea was pretty cool too, although I never felt it was used to it's full potential.
Had an exam today so didn't get round to playing anything yesterday but tonight I'll fire up something I think

Analogue L and R could have used a shorter run and less friction, but I love the GC controller and the Wavebird was also the first wireless controller I used to any extent.
I also started importing a lot with the GC, my GC collection is split 50/50 between PAL and NTSC-U titles...unhappy with constant swapping between boot discs I bougth a second Cube, a modified NTSC-J.
Sweet times.

It was a great little system and I have fond memories of it as it was the last system my parents brought me before all my own money went on an Xbox!
I must admit that I felt it was the generation where Nintendo dropped the ball slightly as there Mario, Zelda and tent pole releases were not as ground-breaking or better than their past and subsequent efforts. However, the Gamecube for me is all about third party content, Capcom were on fire with Resident Evil RE:Birth, Resident Evil 4, P.N.03 and Viewtiful Joe and Sega made the never bettered Super Monkey Ball and the best version of F Zero GX.
Outside of the third part releases and the disappointing top tier Nintendo releases, Nintendo showed some great innovation with Animal Crossing along with a bit of dare such as Doshin the Giant.
It’s not my favourite Nintendo console but it’s such a great piece of hardware. Happy Birthday little purple coloured piece of plastic!
