Console mods - lighting/spraying etc.. - (picture heavy)

    lo all

Firstly perhaps this should be in O/T
Secondly gonna appologise about the size of the pics - im not sure how to resize em, so mods feel free if ya like
Anyway does anyone else seem to spend more time pissing around modding their consoles, rather than playing games on em...or is it just me

    So far i've done:
    Chipped (obviously) 2.2lite
    HDD upgrade 120gb
    Replaced Fan (12v)
Replaced Thermal Compound on CPU and GPU - now runs cool enough to disconnect that noisy GPU fan - mine was screaming!
    Front Leds replaced to Blue
Circular cold Cathode fixed around Jewel - UV Blue
Custom Made 3-D Jewel (from craxtion)
Led's fitted behind all joystick ports
"Knight rider" 8) effect leds on front right side, (6) + made control board to operate them.

I have just finished one of my xbox's off - whadda ya think

have also put up a .avi showing the knight rider effect leds - it's just over a meg and can be found HERE

The bronze colour came out a much darker than i was expecting, i may redo it again soon in a lighter shade, apart from that i'm pretty happy with the effect especially as it is my first spray job, and am pleased with the quality of it.

I have just chipped and installed 120gb in my see through green xbox, and have got a green circular cold cathode to bung in there too, so soon that should glow like a radioactive breezeblock

Any of the rest of ya done anything?

apart from the price of the chip and HDD, i guess the most expensive thing was the jewel which cost me $30
Paint was a tenner from halfords, cathode and fan was about a fiver from either ebuyer or ebay, (got a couple from each)
The led's were dead cheap from ebay, got 20 i think for about 6quid.
The control board i spent more on than i should have done, went over the top buying components/ic's - did originally plan on having 4 "sets" of knight rider lights cut into the top in an x shape with the jewel in the centre, all linked up to the hdd access - so they only operate when the HDD is being operated - decided against this as the space available there is so limited.

Overall about ?100 i guess, but that includes jump wire kit and a couple of extra stuff needed to do the job

          that cube sounds nice

i remember seeing some pics a while ago of your DC i think it was - get em reposted.

I've got a limited xbox yet to finish - but i'm obviously not gonna spray that fella - just gotta do the lighting side of things.
Also got another xbox that i modded ages ago, it was skinned and fitted with a glass magnifying lense replacing the jewel - with leds under it the effect was like a spot light - have now got a red cathode to put in there - will aslo take the skin off and spray that one, some sort of red theme i expect, to match the cathodes colour - knight rider red led's too if i can be arsed. That was the most time consuming part of whole mod - having to make the control board from scratch, figuring out where to house it inside the xbox and running cables/wires to the led arrays - took many many hours, but should be very much quicker if i do it again.

Gotta say a big thankyou to my dremmel tho - would never have been able to do half the stuff without it

            Lo all

Off work with a bad back, saw this thread and felt I had to post a boast

Here's a simple but effective mod I did to my Neo Geo:

The Neo Geo AES has no power-ON light, but on most models there is a red LED on the board (you can see it through the vents on the back with the power switched on).
I noticed that the reset button, like the joystick buttons, were translucent, so all I had to do was snip the board led and run some wires to underneath the reset button, and swap red for clear blue. It looks great (especially in the dark), and actually serves a useful purpose, as well

This is my third Neo mod. First was snipping a jumper to make it 60hz RGB, second was installing a debug BIOS. This is how to do the LED mod (piss easy):

Yeah, I could have just tapped the power from a different part of the board, but this was simpler. In the last pic, you can see a good image of the debug BIOS (left of the cart slot, white label on it).

Nothing flashy, but this is very neat and works well:

PC Engine RGB mod (MY method)

                RF Unit removed, board cleaned:

Mini DIN soldered to cleaned surface:

Wiring all on reverse side - taken off the expansion port rather than straight of the HU chips.

No ugly holes made in the machine - the socket looks legit.

Finished, RGB amp fitted inside SCART plug rather than inside the console.

Nice work there Youwin, not sure about the bronze/blue colour scheme but such a level of modification is indeed impressive.

That is still the best looking console ever made in my opinion.

And nice work, I love things when they look stock but hacked around so only you know

That xbox mod is one of the best I've ever seen, it looks really professional and not anything like the way that most people have butchered their xbox's on the xbox-scene.com forums.
I did a mod of my on a few months back, I got some blue el wire and put it under the shell of my LE jap xbox which looked rather cool but preferred it stock so took it all out after a while. My next mod is going to be making the ultimate n64, I've got a ntsc one and rgb modded it, I've fitted an blue led instead of the red one and have been given a broken pal n64 which I'm going to take the region epprom off so I can make the n64 play games from all regions, to finish it off I'm going to get the N64 chromed (proper chromed not the cheap chrome effect spray paint you can get, I'll get it done professionally so it will be real chrome and will be metallic and conduct electricity so I'll probably put some lacquer over it). When its done I'll post some pics.

Just use your everyday spraypaint, I use the stuff people use on cars. That works a treat. We've got this black paint at the roys near mine. I sprayed my friends DC this colour. It's mettalic, so has lots of little speckles of silver.

Looks the absolute business. Try and find something like that. Give me your email and i'll show you a pic of it.
