Day Z : Arma II Mod

    Anyone seen this?

It's a zombie mod for Arma 2. Online multiplayer, persistent world, 225 Square Km map. you can play on different servers each time but your character is maintained across instances. If you die then that's it, you have to start again. You have to scavenge for food and water, ammunition etc. imagine The Walking Dead MMO. Looks incredible. You need to have Arma 2 + Operation Arrowhead to install the mod. Servers seem overwhelmed at the moment but hopefully they'll sort that soon. Here's some video:

I wonder if you can get in a chopper and recreate the 28 weeks later flymo scene

You can fly choppers on this. And all the other vehicles. They are broken at the start so you need parts to fix them. I'll do a first play on this soon because it is utterly incredible. A unique experience for sure.

Standalone possibly coming to PS4. Probably not XBone because MS are still charging for patches and Day Z is the kind of game that'll have lots of tweaks done regularly so would be prohibitively expensive to put out on the bone.

So Sony have waved the fee for patches with PS4? I highly doubt it.
So who's paying the bandwith if these guys decide they want to patch their game every week?

This is from Dean hall (day z creator):

“We’re happy to see DayZ on any console but there is a… I guess one problem,” “The console needs to not charge for us to do updates and it needs to be indie title friendly.”

When asked whether Microsoft and Sony are still charging for patches, Hall replied: “As far as I’m aware, Microsoft is, Sony’s not. And Sony allows you to self-publish. But who knows? Maybe Microsoft will change. From our perspective, we need self-publishing because DayZ would be a great digital download title.”

Self publishing really is a high point but I can't believe Sony won't charge for bandwidth, unless by charging for online play via ps+ they are offsetting that against charging developers.
At this rate I'm surprised any indie dev would work with MS on Xbone.

It seems to be a part of the same problem which means that Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty! is appearing on everything apart from Microsoft hardware. I know they'd long had issues with Microsoft's policies but it seems like they've not managed to move with the older stuff let alone the new game.

For Xbox One they've granted us a license for New 'n' Tasty! but they still say you need a publisher. We don't have a publisher so we're not officially on the platform, even though we're compatible, even though we'll be ready to do it. Period.

Why do we need a publisher when we self-finance our games, we build our own IP, we manage our own IP and we've turned nearly two million units online as indie publishers sold - not free downloads? Why? What's wrong with us?

Who's in touch with their audience? And who seems out of touch with their audience? All we know is we've tried to get our games on their platform and we can't do it - and I even helped them release the box.

Phil Spencer talked to Eurogamer about self publishing.

Eurogamer: So, to be clear, you're open to the possibility of self-publishing in the future? Things may change?

                    Phil Spencer: Absolutely.

DayZ's servers have been hacked and source code accessed, user accounts are secure though

Bloody hell, I loved this mod when it came out and had some intense experiences with other players at the time.

I did actually buy the full game in the end but by that point I'd had my fill and never put much time into it.
