As Edge says this month the moves don't connect properly and the environments aren't as pretty as DOA3 so why bother?

That's the thing, I want this game so much based on the opinions of peope here it sounds like I'd love it. However, I will have no competition. No one I know is that dedicated to put the necessary effort into learning it, and the arcade I frequent seem to have ignored it as well.

I read this recently and have to wonder why you would care what the backgrounds look like when your trying to concentrate on kicking someones ass. Backgrounds are nice, n in DOA they really matter becuase they can be used, e.g. falling off ledges etc. When does VF use its background?

My problem also - but in this case it would seem that there's enough of a 1 player experience to warrant a purchase - it would be good to get some skills down in the event of future meet-ups etc

Edge are so full of it -

How can you worry about backgrounds when after throwing just a single standing punch the train of thought goes:

1. buffer sidestep? No. I want to attack but..
2. buffer throw cancel? but which throw is my opponent going for - I may do the wrong cancel!
3. cancel the punch and grab? but he may be expenting it and have already buffered his own cancel >_<
4. sidestep and grab? but what if he's going for a roundhouse?
5. cancel the punch and attack with something strong? this could also end in tears if he has buffered a counter!!11

With both players involved in similar mind games, I'm sorry but you must be totally crap at the game to even notice background graphics. This game is like chess but violent!
