That's what I thought. Except bigger. Like a Super Didact.

Take that 343, you got served.

It'll be interesting to see how Bungie approaches the new franchise if its intended to be more young aimed than Halo. The artwork isn't very enticing though

Sarcasm? There's a wide range of FPS titles from before and after Halo, which are infinitely better than Halo, which was utter **** if we're being honest. Even the HD remake of the original Perfect Dark outshines it. Halo was a diabolical step back for FPS design, and lamentably it's been aped by so many which follow. Bioshock was more "Halo underwater" than System Shock 3. There's no inventory in Halo, and the environments are non-interactive. If I shoot a rocket into a dustbin, I bloody well want it to be destroyed! Even Goldeneye allowed interaction with the scenery. Halo was a plastic corridor (or outside box) with only two guns at your disposal.

I am utterly mystified every single time someone claims it's the best (or one of the best) shmups out there. It's like saying Sunny Delight is the best fruit juice compared to grape, apple, orange and the rest. It barely qualifies as juice!

That's all very well, you can name me 10 or maybe 15 FPS that you like better than Halo, but I could still name you more titles that categorically aren't as well made/better/whatever metric you use to define good. So my statement still stands.
Also, you can't name a game that I LIKE more than Halo. So there :P
But you wouldn't understand why, as you live in the dark ages of internet and thus have only experienced a fraction of what the titles have had to offer.

Also, it's better with friends, which if your online persona is anything to go by, might be problematic for you. I imagine you are prone to hulking out on a fairly frequent basis.

RE: exploding bins, you obviously don't see why games designers/developers choose in 2012 not to have what in all honesty is a fairly throwaway feature (no pun intended). Goldeneye and Perfect Dark didn't have destructable scenary, they had a feature that removed a bunch of vertices in any polygon and made the texture darker, which in 1997 passed as destruction.
If you want destructive Scenary, go play Red Faction, which coicidentally is an example of a FPS I wouldn't rate as highly as any Halo title.

Crysis 2 had loads of interactive scenary, you could go upto water dispensers and turn them on and everything, that gave me at least 27 hours of enjoyment in itself!

I find it utterly mysterfying that someone can be so fixated the realism and interaction factor of an inanimate, non-cusbustive object like an office chair or bin exploding when shot and then in the same statement claim that the concept of a single humanoid character being ale to carry 27 different weapons under their formal wear was the way forward.

Bizarrely the video crashed exactly as the words

You see, in the world of Sketcz, destructible environments equals good game design. But it's only cosmetic and in no way impacts the gameplay you say? IRRELEVANT, I MUST HAVE BROKEN FURNITURE AND CRACKS ON THE GROUND!

                      Inventory system = immersion.

I think they will be ok, they survived 10 years of being owned by Microsoft , so much so they got ownership of themselves after.

A valid point, but it's less about realism and more about freedom. Perhaps I should word my arguments differently.

My only experience of online FPS gaming is being in a Counterstrike clan during A-levels, way back when (turn of the millennium?). I only like FPS titles for their single player. Counterstrike was OK, but nothing compared to the single player modes I was going through. I was introduced to the genre with Half Life, Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Goldeneye, and some others. All of these games increase the scope of gameplay (with specific and detailed mission objectives), RPG-lite additions, exploration, narrative, and varying degrees of destructible environment. Being in first person isn't just about shooting a gun, it's being that person.

My belief was this was the future of the FPS. Bigger, more interactive, more detailed, more story, more complexity. Instead they've become simpler. At least the popular ones have. Halo, Bioshock, all the military ones. It's all just point and shoot.

Halo is the worst offender though. I'm guessing you all like it because of multiplayer? I've never even bothered, and have no intention of doing so. Halo for me lives and dies by its single player, which is pointless.

The last good FPS I played was STALKER Call of Pripyat. And even that was dumbed down over Shadow of Chernobyl.

How is Halo the worst offender? I get the feeling you're talking several very focused narrative driven FPS titles and then comparing various other types against them.

Not that I am discounting the ones you have mentioned, because they're excellent... But taking Halo for a moment, that was always more about the sandbox element. Giving you a large battlefield, an objective and a number of ways to approach it. Sure, they still wanted you to be the Master Chief, but I always felt with Halo it was the scale of diversity of battle which set it apart.

That makes it a different beast to say Half-Life, so bundling them into the same comparison is to be expected, but not exactly fair and you get to the nitty gritty. I guess same with Goldeneye etc... They've all excelled at certain things but I don't think any one has nailed the superior parts of all FPS in the one title.

I'd imagine you'd still be complaining if we lived in an alternative universe where every FPS was open world filled with fetch quests and item crafting.
