[QUOTE=crocky-chocky;1962531]Can't understand why people are moaning about launch ports being shown. They're hyping a console launch and it's not like the games are a bunch of stinkers. There are plenty of people yet to play them.

Normally i think you are right, they are good games and you do need ports to fill the launch titles the problem is im sure anyone who would want to play Arkham City or Mass Effect 3 will have either a Xbox/PS3, or even a decent PC. Why would anyone pay a lot of money for the hardware then payfull price for the games when they are already cheap elsewhere. Perhaps if they were running on par graphics wise with a top end PC for example then fair enough but they are just the same games.

Anyone got a link to where I can see the whole Nintendo conference? I wasn't able to watch it live.

For all those people who find it more convenient to bother you with their question rather than to Google it for themselves.

            I honestly wouldn't bother though!

No amazing surprises I guess, and I would have liked a bigger deal made of Pikmin 3. P-100 looks wonderful, Zombi U shows promise and is looking like it could be proper survival horror.

I think Nintendo's approach is really reassuring - Even Nintendo Land looked like a much better way of presenting a minigame bundle. The New Mario Bros game looked lovely with its further embellished art-style, and on the 3DS side I thought Paper Mario looked awesome.

I dunno, maybe I just got tired of all the depressing headshots and first-person grinding in the other conferences, but I think Nintendo did a good job.

Totally agree with this. Instead of focusing on games that are years away, they showed us the games for the launch window. And if all of this does indeed make the launch period, it will be the best launch ever in my opinion.

Also glad to see somebody make games that are more wondrous, imaginative and fantastical in their presentation. Nintendoland, P100 and Lego City all evoke a feeling of "fun" not present in most of todays popular games. If I want grey cover shooters I have enough to chose from, thank you Nintendo for giving me something else.

Surely the point of showing "year old ports" is to get across to us and Nintendo shareholders that the company has secured some third party support and the console will benefit from multi-platform releases in the future.

Fair enough they are not what are going to shift the consoles initially, but if the COD game of Nov 2013 is coming to 360, PS3 AND Wii-U - the full game and not some half arsed cut down Wii-U version, it might convince the general public that the console is a contender/serious games console that can stand on it's own without people needing a "proper" console to go with it, regardless of whether they may or may not already have one.

Well I'm going to say it it's the Dreamcast 2. It will be blessed with some stone cold classics but will receive bog all in top tier 3rd party support, I probably will still get one as Ninetndos first party stuff is usually worth admission alone but the only 3rd party stuff on this is going to be a huge splurge of shovelware an ports ala wii launch. Will be a quick cash grab then split for the next 360/ps4. I hope I'm wrong but I don't think I will be

Who knows, everyone thought that the Wii was a waste of time when it was shown, it only went on to sell 95 million consoles and counting.

                    95 million

                    that is insane.

I certainly wouldn't like to say if they could pull it off again.

Don't get me wrong I hope I am wrong and it's a success I just can't see it replicating the success of the first wii, it just has the signs of the dreamcast launch to me

Whilst I agree with this in principal the way it was executed at the conference was a complete mess, Nintendo was the great white hope for E3 this year. All they needed to do was to turn up show some hardware, show some decent first party stuff and show what third parties were doing. They couldn't even get that right ffs, they showed more interesting stuff for the 3DS and the conference wasn't even supposed to be about that!

It seems to me that with the WiiU, Ninty don't really know what they are doing with it. They seem to be stuck in this middle ground where they are trying to please the casual and the hardcore. There is an old saying 'If you chase two rabbits, both will escape',

Nintendo are trying to please everybody, and in reality they may not end up pleasing anybody.

Interesting comparison. Anything in particular that makes you compare them?

Well the one that struck me when I read that was that perhaps the buying public will be anticipating a better console to be released by a competitor in the following year or so. And by two competitors this time around no less. Did the Dreamcast lack EA/third party support at launch? I honestly don't recall.... I kept my money in my pocket to go towards getting a PS2 at launch instead. Got a DC eventually though!

Of course SEGA didn't have 95 million customers buy their previous console & a similar amount invest in their handheld - all so they could play games featuring the most enviable quality of IP. I think Nintendo will be just fine.

They will be really unlikely to hit the heady heights of the Wii again, but even if they sold half as many they'd of sold as Many as Ps3/360 has this generation.

Plus there is the age old thing that Nintendo NEVER sell hardware at a loss.
