I was completely flabbergasted by Microsoft's presentation in particular, and the huuuuge portion of it that had absolutely nothing at all to do with games, including a full song performance by.. Usher (?) I thought I was watching Top of the Pops or something.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ****ING GAMES!?

It's reminding me alot of the film industry to be honest. It's gotten so profitable that safety first is a priority over breeding new ideas, taking risks and generally allowing creativity to thrive. There is a huge shift back towards the garage days of the early 80s and to be fair the best original titles will appear in the sub $10 bracket on xbla, PSN or iOS.

The only thing to take comfort in is I firmly believe the industry is here to stay. My tastes will change as I grow older and the core focus may shift to a younger generation but I still personally feel there are enough creative people out there that still have an outlet to make truly original, inspiring new titles.

I love a blockbuster epic as much as anyone but too many and it all becomes stagnant. Thankfully that only serves to make other types of experiences even more original and interesting. We're really at a low point right now but I feel things will improve.

I feel exactly the same as most of you regarding a lot of stuff at E3, and a lot of it just wasn't of any interest to me.

I don't feel the same way about the gaming industry as a whole.

There are still a ton of games out there that really do get me interested and hyped up. According to Steam, I've spent about 130 hours on Dota 2 and I'm still going ridiculously strong on that.

Phantasy Star Online 2 is coming out soon, can't wait for that one!

I'm considering dropping an absolutely ridiculous amount of money on a Dodonpachi Saidaioujou PCB.

Gravity Rush on Vita's kinda looking awesome, played the demo and loved that.

        DayZ is becoming an obsession.

I still play through Crysis 2 from time to time, Ridge Racer on Vita, Akai Katana, Dark Souls. Coming up we've got Anarchy Reigns, Metal Gear Rising, ZoE HD Collection.

Disgaea 3 on Vita is bloody superb!

I would say I'm losing my interest in games at all. I'm just losing interest in major developers and their so called Triple A titles.

I knew there would be a tons fps and tps thats what most of the games market wants so that what the games companys make. at e3 but i had hoped nintendo would broden there horzion and not just pander to the casual gamer i was thinking we might get a f zero, zelda , star fox ,sin and punishment or advance wars something for the lanch of the wii u that would really target people like me and i persume people on this forum . Mabye the problem is the output from japan its just seems to have vanished with out platinum games and cave and sega am2 what is there. namco konmai capcom for the most part sega seem to make to odd game and farm most of it out elsewhere there is no counter balance to this fps dribble that is coming out .

I don't think there is only "problem" from the Console manufacturers point of view, the fact is us "hardcore" gamers are in the minority now, FPS and Casual titles is where all the money is to be had.

People in here aren't getting old, games are just getting dull and lack a true feeling of excitement and discovery. When I order retro games and particularly ones I haven't played, I often get a huge wave of excitement come over me when the item is in the post.

For me, gamers haven't lost the magic but often games have, certainly the big ones.

I do think fundermentally thought the more games you play the more you raise the bar in what you expect from a game .

Games seem to be trying to be movie experiences more and more lately. Waypoint markers, automated jumping, unexplorable areas with one way jumps etc. It all seems to be geared as a throwaway experience now.

That game didnt appeal to me one bit i dont really get anything out of that style of games they are like an okay action film watch once there is no way i would spend 29.99 on that experience . I dont really buy many games new i will only support games i feel should be supported .

Once it all becomes about profit, and creativity/risk becomes a no go area...its a one way street really.

I think that the whole digital download thing is really relevant here, because maybe we will see hardware barely making strides in the console world, perhaps nintendo have predicted this and the WiiU is genius foresight on the part of nintendo. I mean the huge dev costs are killing the ability to produce fresh games/ideas in any big way, so maybe limiting hardware really is the answer?

Technical capabilitiies, game sizes, development team sizes, dev costs etc.

Maybe the XBLA/PSN platform is the way all smaller releases will end up, and not in huge retail games type ways.

I can honestly see a situation where we see a just a few AAA titles, which are guaranteed sellers, released on shelves, and then loads of games which would otherwise have been retail releases, cut back in scale and released as smaller XBLA types. This is the only way i can see the industry thriving creatively.

The more i think about it the more i think advancing hardware is just speeding up the demise of the industry, or at least the part of the industry i want to see succeed.

But yeah...absolutely a dissapointing E3, best games were ones we already knew about.

It's because as we reach the end of a generation that's the only way developers can make games look better than the previous games.

We all know the more open a game gets, generally the worse it becomes, it works the other way too. Make a very closed, controlled linear experience and you have much tighter control as to what is going on onscreen. That's why we are getting more of these experiences , because these titles are easiest to Market.
