    Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee HD

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee HD getting full reboot

Odd World: Abe's Oddysee is getting its own HD version, but fans will have to wait a little longer to play it. Developer Oddworld Inhabitants has announced that the game will get a full reboot rather than just some HD visuals, and as a result won't be out until next summer.

The developer announced the plans on its
Facebook page (via GameInformer). It stresses that this will be a new game, to be shown off later this year. It later clarified that while this project is starting "from scratch," it's using the original game as a blueprint.
If you simply can't wait for more Oddworld, plenty more is on the way. Both the Vita version of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath and the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee HD are targeting june releases.

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee HD is going back to the drawing board. Rather than a prettied-up version of the original, the developer has announced it is starting the game over from scratch using the original as a blueprint.

Really pleased to hear this news.

EvilBoris' Prediction : It'll be all ugly and have at the very least 3D characters and somehow lose the charm of the originals.

Is it just me, or did it always look like that?

I'll say it again - do some ****ing work, devs.

Everything in those screens is rendered and lit in realtime, compared to the 2D sprites of the original. The fact that it looks so true to the original is quite an achievement really.

I saw Lorne Lanning talk about that at the Eurogamer expo - the reason they haven't made the 'quintology' is because the next game in the series would cost around $20-$30 million to develop. He hasn't got the cash - but he doesn't want to sell out the franchise to a risk-averse publisher.

All of these re-releases and remakes are an attempt to get enough cash to fund a new Oddworld game independently.

That might be the reason right now, but it doesn't explain the whole situation. Apparently in the past they've had enough money to make both Exoddus and Stranger's Wrath, neither of which count towards the quintology. It's a bunch of bull****.

Why doesn't Exoddus count? Or did you mean Munch's Oddysee?

Exoddus was only a side story, apparently. I don't know what the logic is. I used to think it was that a new game had to have a new character, like Munch. But then Stranger's Wrath is also a non-quintology game. This is why I want them to stop ****ing around.

Loved the original and cant wait to play this on PC. Hope they can refine the controls though as they were extremely fiddly in the original.
