As a beat 'em up fanatic, Final Fight One, Double Dragon Advance and Street Fighter 2: Turbo Revival (shock!horror!!)are my all-time fave GBA games (seriously, the GBA is like having a late-80s/early 90s arcade machine in your hand!) With SF2TR, lots of people dis that version of SF2 but it's brilliant, it just feels more 'authentic' than the Crawfish port of SFA3, which is really cool but feels a bit overrated to me, I just like how Turbo Revival 'feels' (and looks).
I'm not gonna dispute your points, Nu, I used to play it casually, occasionally (like on bus journeys) and always found it loads of fun and really pretty to look at (still gobsmacked at holding a supercharged SNES, at the time, tbh). You probably played it more more extensively than I did.
If I could have just ONE GBA game, it'd be Double Dragon Advance...there is simply no need for any other GBA games if you have that.
PS: Also add in my usual GBA recommendation, Max Payne. A crackingly playable shooter, and an ideal way to port a 3D game over to a 2D version.

Are the Sonic Advance games remakes of the first 3 or are they entirely new games? - got the urge to play Sonic 2!

Going to have a look at Double Dragon now. It's a shame Sega didn't release the Streets of Rage games for the GBA.

^The Sonic Advance games are all-new Sonic games...and worth checking out. As for Max Payne, the gunplay works *extremely* well, and is lots of fun. If there is a flaw (and there IS), then it's when you've got to navigate around fire-spewing pipes, it is HELLISH due to the isometric perspective.

Got outbid going for Metroid Zero.
I did however manage to get Rayman 10th Anniversary edition which includes both the first Rayman for the PSX and Rayman 3. Always wanted to beat the original but I recall it gets devilishly hard towards the end.
Also, quick update on my Final Fantasy 1 progress - I've finally found the ice cavern!
