The footage is from a preAlpha build it was never meant to be seen by the public.

That's how all games look at one point. Load times are terrible, frame rate is in single figures, combat doesn't work etc and then it all comes together.

I wouldn't say much improved or came together for Battlefront 2, to be honest.

I remember free radical harping over how awesome they were for being able to switch between land and space battles in a match, apparently forgetting how pandemic had already managed that with bf2.

Canning this was the right decision, just a shame that the outcome probably contributed to David Doak finishing in the business

That's true about Doak. All (?) Free Radical had to do at the start of this gen was make Timesplitter 4, instead of getting sucked into doing that Halo-'beater' Haze. If they'd done that they'd still be here and at the top of their game, I bet.
