Two of my friends are asking me to get a deal for them for Chrsitmas. They want PS2s. One has kids so they want the Eye Toy and dance mat. The other wants Pro Evo Soccer.

"But," I tell them, "you can get Halo, MM3, JSRF, PGR AND an XBox for ?139.95!"
"I know!" they say. "But it doesn't have [insert PS2 only title]!"

****ing mad I reckon. XBox is turning into one hell of a console, at one hell of a price, and people STILL aren't noticing.

Whenever someone asks me which console they should buy, I want to tell them to buy a gamecube but I don't. If they're more suited to the PS2 then I'll tell them to get a PS2

Helllooo? I couldn't give a **** what console they buy really. Just don't like seeing people blowing money when there are real bargains to be had. And the XBox this Christmas has it all. Except Eye Toy and PES and dance mats

At the end of the day it's their decision. My console of choice this generation is a modded import GameCube (although I own the others too) but I don't know if I'd really recommend it to a 'casual' gamer who didn't play often or enjoyed more mainstream games.

Fact is, your argument seems to be based on value for money alone. If they want to play the Pro Evolution Soccer games, EyeToy and a wide selection of DDR titles then that's what they want to play, and they probably don't care if it'll cost a little bit extra. After all, a console is a long term investment, you only pay for the hardware once.

They want a PS2, they dont want an Xbox. Its this fundamental difference that means that this thread should not exist.

Its not because its what their friends have. Its because they want a PS2 and play its games. They do not want an Xbox. Maybe I should repeat this a few times for those rabid Xbox fanboys out there.. it never seems to get through.

Well you obviously do, otherwise you wouldn't be so angry at me for suggesting they...gulp...buy what they want and not what you think they should buy.

Why would it bother you so much anyway? They want a console to play family games like DDR and Eyetoy; they don't want FPSs and racers. It doesn't matter if the Xbox is a better value console (in terms of hardware only, not games IMHO) if they don't want an Xbox then they don't want an Xbox. You don't work in a Game store, do you? You remind me of every Game employee I've ever met

Every console has great games,peroid.If they want a PS2 for the games they want to play,then fine.I'm don't really like the Xbox line up tbh,it as good games but they don't interest me.Does that mean i'm a misinformed 'mainstreamer'....oh well.

This is little different to the pointless console wars arguements weve grown up with year upon year, and that Im so keen on removing from this, a multiformat games board.

We try hard here to educate people not to get so hung up over formats, and instead to appreciate the games each system has, but this is clearly lost amongst some gamers. Calling your friends "****ing mad" for not wanting an Xbox when its entirely their own choice and personal preference is a ridiculous arguement to what amounts to a ridiculous, biased thread which Ive little option but to close.
