I've always liked Demolish Fist TBH.
    Kept you waiting, huh?

As a fan of fighters I have never really clicked with Guardian Heroes. I really want to like it but it feels quite messy and chaotic. It Scottish terms, it's a rammy!

As much as I luv streets of rage/ bare knuckle, I have a certain sweet spot for final fight. Probably because it came before it and a lot of influences were taken from it, from steel pipes right down roast chickens and enemies that slide at you. Everything about final fight had its own charm... I don't half miss that game... Other than mame I hafta settle for the Gva version these days, which is good, but having it on the larger screen is where it's at...

I've said it before, I'll say it again, and I'll keep on saying it.

Knights of the Round deserves FAR more love and/or appreciation than it gets on these forums.

Knights of the Round is ace, and the Snes version is really good too. I'm going to go playthroughs of everything I can and give them all their own posts eventually. It may take a while but it's a fun little project.

I've never understood why some seem to rate that game so highly. It always seemed too limited and boring to me. I also agree with Nakamura that a beat 'em up needs a few extra moves or something more to stop it from feeling too repetitive, and I too agree that Final Fight is a bit lacking after some of the other great scrollers that came after it. Great for it's time but not a game I would go back to.

My favourite are SOR2, Golden Axe Revenge of Death Adder and Violent Storm. I'm gonna give AVP and DnD Shadows Over Mystara a go and see how well they compare.

If you're after a more RPG-style spin on the formula, Dungeon Fighter Live came onto XBLA last Friday and is quite good fun.

I'll give that look, I especially like the Diablo style hack 'n slash games which are sort of an offshoot of beat 'em ups.

I'm really looking forward to Dust:An Elysian Tail if that game counts

Firstly, the soundtrack is still awesome, two decades on.

Secondly, KotR has far more depth than it is given credit for (RPG-style levelling/power-up, a subtle blocking/counter-attacking system that actually forces you to be more tactical and conservative with your attacking, especially during boss fights).

Thirdly, what's not to love about a beat-em-up that let's you play simultaneous three-player co-op?

It's a considerably better game than the majority of scrolling beat-em-ups that have been discussed on these forums, for feck's sake.

                    A classic.

I bet the snes version is expensive too. Pity sounds good.

You can play the arcade version on Capcom Classics Vol 2 on the PS2, and you will get King of Dragons and Captain Commando into the bargain. In terms of the Snes version, I think the Pal Version goes for a pretty penny, but if memory serves the US version is a bit more reasonable.

No love for Capcom's the Punisher side scroller on Arcade?

I love knights of the round, still my ultimate fav is Streets of Rage 2. Its music, varied stages and colourful graphics lend it to being my fav. Also the moves connected with weight and the sound effects were spot on. It controlled like a dream and the move sets was neigh on perfect.

Alien vs Predator is my close second. Predator Dragon punch......need I say more?

The Punisher is one of the all time great walk along beat em ups IMHO.

AvP was just so fricking hard but I can appreciate its art and depth, sometimes its like frickin Alien Bullet Hell.

Streets of Rage 2 for me as well.. So much fun.

By the way, I think the title screen music on the SVC:SOR game is tremendous.

Captain Commando for me. It has a baby in a robot suit for crying out loud.
