I actually quite like the original Master System, maybe not at the time, but over the years the design has grown on me. The original Xbox wasn't too bad either if you had it in a rack with only the front panel visible; you can't really expect design miracles from Microsoft.

I have to agree the Colecovision looks terrible and dated, as does anything with wood paneling like the Atari VCS. On the subject of Atari, both Lynx systems were horrible too. I really can't fathom what NEC were thinking with the design of the SuperGrafx either.

The original Megadrive looks ugly as far as I'm concerned, but when it's stacked on top of a Mega CD it suddenly becomes one of the coolest things ever.

The original Megadrive looks ugly as far as I'm concerned, but when it's stacked on top of a Mega CD it suddenly becomes one of the coolest things ever.

God, I forgot how awful the original xbox design was. Worst console design ever imo. It looks like a 10 year olds idea of something cool.

I remember a friends who had got an Atari VCS for his birthday, we were 5 at the time, maybe 6, and he was going on about how amazing this thing was while at my house and for the next week I just couldn't sleep, the following Saturday night we were going rond theirs so I would get to see and play on this 'thing from the future!'

I remember getting there and running through to the lounge with him standing there by the side of the Atari with both hands held out towards it showing it off like he was the proudest kid on the planet.

All I remember thinking was 'It looks like my Mums' Hostess Trolly!!!'

Which looked pretty much identical to this...



Although we played it for around 7 hours solid that night and I stayed over and we played it again all day.

It just looked so ****e and dated then, and that was the late 70's!

Agreed. Although I personally loved the controller, though. Preferred it over the PAL/JPN one (Purple two-tone buttons, subtle indents in the Y & X buttons...).

CD32 - WTF?
Mega Drive 2 - Looks like a paving slab. Probably another US design.

U.S. SNES is ugly, but NES beats Famicom in every way.
