Oculus Rift, VR Headset that could actually work?

Looks interesting especially as it seems to get some backing from some pretty big names. Now I need to convince somebody to pledge to get my hands on a dev kit!

You can see how enthusiastic he is about this kind of thing from E3

Damn that guy can talk! Thanks for posting it though, good to have some elaboration on all of the tech behind it.

The interviewer made me laugh because he couldn't believer how nerdy Carmack is. It showed me that Carmack has been such a big success because he has an extreme passion for technology.

I really enjoyed the interview, as I've learnt quite a lot from it. It would be cool to have a channel dedicated to this sort of in depth nerdy tech talk, as I really enjoy it. When magazines like EDGE used to go into detail about the inner workings of technology, I was in my element. Geeks like me need to see more interviews like this with inspiring genius nerds like John.

Shoemaker barely got a word in!

Fascinating to hear that John found that technology had ground to a halt on vr headsets. He must have thought FFs! Do I have to do EVERYTHING myself!?

Very exciting stuff, I like the modularity of the components too, though I think it's a little too early for me personally to be investing in. Atari were actually planning to launch a high quality (albeit 52 degree angle but this was 1995) mass market VR kit for the Jaguar right before they went bust with the base console plus VR kit all in for sub $400, which if it had come to fruition could have been game changing as I was always sad that the industry moved away from this kind of work. Two prototypes are known to exist out in the wild from back then and Missile Command shipped with the VR mode in it, sometimes the VR kit shows up at some of the JagFests and it's supposed to be a lot of fun. Below video shows it at the 12:10 mark.
