    akihabara?

    Hi all,

*Not sure if this is import gaming or not, please move if necessary*

Just discovered that in a weeks time I'm going to Japan on business I'll be near Akihabara for the weekend of the 22nd. I was just wondering the followin:

what shops people recommend I visit!
    what is a must buy?
and if I can pick up anything for anyone while I'm over there?
I'm thinking of getting a NEo Geo AES and was wondering what price and availability is like?

Never been to Japan so moth excited and a bit worried

    thanks

    J

    Try:

In fact, just do what I did and do a forum search for "akihabara". There are loads of threads.

Moved to gaming discussion. This forum is for news.

when I went to japan for the second time, i asked a Japanese dude on the GFaqs forums, and he sent me homeade maps he drew, with all the best shops.

        best shops = hidden alleys

I saw a Neogeo AVS with a controller for something like ?18, not sure if anything else was wrong with it.

also, saw MSX2 Snatcher SD, for like ?300
        and sapphire for ?300

didnt get it though since I wanted to pick up a duo-r with games for ?80

        go with what you like.
I wanted drac-X, and some good saturn games too.

also, check for disc games with a tiny nick in them, thelly drop sometmes 40% off the price.

make sure you are awake and focused, I went everyday for 5 days, and you still wont see everything.

alos went to some great resturants.
have fun, chill out, and EXPLORE! hmmm, I might have that map somwehere, can I put it up on the forums?
nope, I need to URL which I dont have.[/img]

Try Laox and Sofmap, thats where I went most of the time, they are not the cheapest places (they didnt have a AES for ?18 anyway) but if you are looking for something you can bet one of those two stores will have it. With sofmap though there are about 6 of them in Akihabara, each specialising in certain things (one of them is just PCs, another might be retro stuff ect).

Soft map.... more like 12 i think when i was there hehe

Trader stores are good too.... just search the whole place, so many hidden gems if you look well enough... first day i was there only managed to do half the main street.... madness...

sorry, I meant to say a system WITHOUT controller. You had to buy the arcade joystick thing seperately.

It also might have been missing leads hence the low price.

didnt buy it, since I could never afford the cart games!

Also saw a 64 DD with all of its released games, for cheapish.

              best stuff seen at:
              Sato Musen
              Trader 2 (good stock here!)

when you see the sega arcade, head down the alley to the very left of it, all the way down, past the "adult film merchants" until you reach trader 2 and sato musen.

otherwise, alot can be seen on the highstreet.

also check billboards, I saw several good new stores advertising on them.
