I enjoyed EDF3 but I really hope EDF4 gets a bit injection of colour and crazyness

Whoa! Good list, QC. Japanese Hornets are terrifying.

I'd add this feller into the mix:

      A giant one. Natch.

I always say I'd love Red Faction Armageddon's destruction in an EDF game, but that's crazy talk so I'd settle for an insanely diverse range of critters and monsters. Maybe some tailor made settings for them too, something like the giant centipedes of EDF2 scuttling through the subway.

I'd quite like Binary Domain's awesome armour shattering physics applied to the bugs and such too.

In Earth Defense Force, you save the globe by blowing up huge bugs and big robots, which lay waste to Japanese urban environments.

I'm so looking forward to this one. My Son (5 years old) and I love playing EDF 3 (the last Sandlot one) but hate the 4rd game by the western developer. I'm soooo happy Sandlot are back on this. Back to Japanese cities and big tall buildings to climb up. I can't wait for this.

                        UPDATE!

It looks like there's a new class of character to play alongside the foot soldier and and Wing Diver - The Air Raider!

The Air Raider is EDF 4′s support unit and demolitions specialist, who can drop a beacon that restore health for any units standing in the beacon?s field.

There is also a Lock-On Marker weapon which increases the lock on speed and range for all allied units.

The Air Raider can attack enemies like Hectors by calling in a missile strike?

? or placing gunpods that automatically turn on when an enemy walks by.

Air Raiders also have an arsenal of explosives like remote controlled bombs.

One of the most interesting skills the Air Raider has is he can call a transport chopper to drop a vehicle! You can "summon" an APC that carries four players, a bike, rescue tank, and attack helicopter.

Earth Defense Force 4 has a new kind of Hector with weapons on both arms. Another new type of Hector can generate a force field. Earth Defense Force 2017′s Hectors are in the game too; they?re red and the new Hectors are green.

All of these pics and details were shamelessly nicked from Siliconera.

There are some bigger screenshots at All Games Beta.

It does sound a lot like 2017 with a load more excellent features thrown in.

We've already seen there's two more classes of soldier (Wing Diver and Air Raider) and a couple of extra enemies (wasp spider and different Hector), plus it seems like there's loads more vehicles to choose from.

I can't wait to cane around the map on a motorcycle and side car!

It sounds like the different classes will lead to some interesting tactical decisions. The Wing Diver's laser, for example, seems to be quite short range. Taking out a hector involves flying behind it, shooting the back of it and then retreating to reload and recharge the jet pack.

I see what you did there...

I can also say I've seen these in real life, one was on a tree near a temple we were visiting with my Dad in Tokyo. When a second one appeared we basically ran like **** out of there.
