Neo XYX - new tate shooter from NG:Dev Team

Early next year on the Neo and TBA 2013 on the DC.

Looks like a Toaplan style shooter which is fine with me.

Graphics look good. Gunlord was a good step forward for NG: Dev Team but an extremely derivative game and not without its flaws. Hopefully they won't just downright copy what made famous vertical shooters interesting but they'll try to add something original in? the mix.

I really like Gunlord and Fast Striker so I have high hopes for this. I hope it's good as I've already ordered a copy.

This looks very good. NG: Dev Team have teamed up with Gryzor, who's an extremely talented artist, and this new game is actually based on one of his earlier projects.

I have just read on Shmups.org that this game likely won't offer a vertically scrolling mode on horizontal screens. The only option will be to play the tate mode as a side scroller. I think I might be canceling my order and wait for the DC version instead.

Surely you have a screen for tate CMcK? I am disappoint

              Totally pointless AES version then.
              Kept you waiting, huh?

That's what I thought as well.

Turning my Loewe 16:9 CRT on its side isn't an option.

I emailed the guys at NGev Team about the lack of support for normal screens and have been given a refund. I suppose I'll just buy the DC version instead.

I do have a 19" monitor for Tate action with my DC but its a bit of a faff hauling it down from the loft when I want to use it. Once I have the extension done on my house I'm hoping to have more room for a permanent two screen setup.

Making a Tate game for a system that's always required a standard 4:3 screen seems quite a strange choice to be honest. I would imagine that the vast majority of Neo Geo owners don't have the option of rotating their main display, as they've never had to before, and they're not going to just for one game.

Ok, so you can rotate the controls, but why not just make it a verizontal shooter from the start?

Also, going by the the NGev.Direct product page, the size of the game and release date all depend on the amount of pre-orders received....

Currently it's spec'd at 200 Megs, with only one game mode and an unknown amount of mid-bosses. If they get enough pre-orders, all of those aspects are subject to change. Seems a strange way to develop a game. They're basically saying that you'll only be getting a more 'complete' version if they get enough pre-orders, but it's going to cost you ?400 anyway.

As far as I know, there has been no mention of a DC or AES version yet, perhaps they're likely but right now this is a coin-op release and as such I don't see an issue. In fact, this is the first one I didn't hesitate on, I think it's great. According to NG DEV, Yoko requires a lot of work rotating the sprites or something so for now it's not included and they've added an option to rotate the controls and HUD as a compromise.

As for the pre-order situation, for whatever reason, this time the amount of development time they can commit requires some guaranteed funding, their version of crowd funding I suppose. Perhaps because tate is a risk, perhaps because they have to pay Gryzor, who knows. I think it'll be a success.

The FAQ mentions the AES and DC versions.

My bad. I guess they're assuming people leet enough to buy a 400 Euro MVS already have a tate option.

How hard is turning a TV on it's side?
