    Archos Gamepad

The more I see of this the more I want ... Much better than the rubbish JXD S7100 that I stupidly bought...

Ignore the total idiot making the video ...

Out in the next few weeks for apparently less than ?130 ... There is one thing that does annoy me and that's the insistence by google of having the menu at the bottom without any way of getting rid of it .. really ruins full screen gaming .. imo ..

Still somewhat interested in this I have to say.

Awful video, but the gamepad itself looks pretty good.

Terrible looking d-pad, and are they PSP nubs?
      Kept you waiting, huh?

The button mapping software on this thing is the reason I am buying it. It lets you map the analogues and buttons to any area on the touch screen. This means you can play things like Dead Trigger with dual analogues and map fire to the shoulder button.
I will post impressions when I get it just in case its a dog (like the last two cheap android tabs I bought!)

I liked the Archos I had although I heard the G9s had warping issues.

Archos said it was delayed till mid November. Its up for pre order at a couple of places for about ?125 inc delivery. None of them are retailers I recognise so I am going to wait till its up at Amazon or from Archos direct

Well I was thinking of getting one ...

But that screen is bloody awful ...

Serisouly would it have been that difficult to actually put an (what is standard now) IPS screen on it? They have just put together something which was worth getting, and then balsed it up completely ... Has Archos been taken over by Nintendo??

I'm sure the screen wont be as bad as that in the flesh. Not sure I'd call IPS standard, certainly not for devices priced at ?125 odd.

I'm more concerned about the pants looking D-pad.

To be fair you can get quite a few cheap tablets (from ainol for example , and other cheap chinese knock offs) with IPS screens for less that ?100 these days ...

If this was less that ?100 I would probably go for it , just for emu duties as much as anything else ... but at ?125 its seems a bit too much

Only thing is this bad boy has a quad core Mali 400 and dual core 1.6ghz processor. Those cheap china tabs would struggle to hit the same price point as this Archos. I received mine on Monday and am loving it. I had a few bad experiences with those Chinese tabs and wouldn't touch a Chinese one again with a barge pole. False economy, they look great in paper but when it arrives and feels like its held together with chewing gum it's no joke.

The archos has great build quality and has coped with everything I threw at it, N64, SNES, brand new game loft games. The button mapping tool is the killer feature. Just press it during a game and drag a hardware button n drop on an onscreen touch button in seconds. I mapped N64oid in moments was soon tiptoeing with analogue control in Mario 64.

Good stuff Dave. I took a punt on one of these for some portable fun, first batch must've sold out really quick though, I don't get mine until the next lot.

How is Perfect Dark? That's the only game I would really want it for, but PS1 would be nice too of course
