    Survival of the Fittest: Results

This morning I grabbed the figures off the other 3 threads and sorted the maths out so here are the results

The PS3 has taken a hit, likely as more phats have died in the last few years. The 360's figures are insane, on one hand it's good for MS that people like it enough to readily rebuy it so many times but on the other hand you have to question whether the 70m units the 360 has sold actually does translate into them having a bigger userbase than Sony.

Not surprising result. The Wii on one hand is probably the least played machine if I am generalising but the Xbox is certainly the worst quality.

Seems like the Slim and Super Slim PS3 failure rate is lower now. All the fat ones dying prob makes those numbers go up. Do the new 360s get red ring if death? The first model PS3 and 360s are appalling really should be ventelated so much better. Nintendo always make sturdy machines.

I believe the new 360 S consoles don't red ring, mainly because they removed the red LED's in the ring

Now you have REOD, Red Eye Of Death.

I reckon my Wii's definitely had more use than any of my other recent systems. Mario Kart 4P daily for hours often.

So your survey was based upon REBUYING consoles?
Would of been good if you'd of said that, I thought it was purely how many you had owned due to failure.

It is based on the previous one having failed, but you have to rebuy to get another one so it will have impacted the sales too. Many will have relied on second hand but there's likely many who bought new, I did for most of them

Very interesting exercise and stats, crazytaxinext. I wonder whether 'being sent for repairs' might be another interesting variable to add to future surveys. Nintendo Wiis might not be often replaced as broken, but mine (in UK) has been sent in via official repair route post 2 times so far. I've come to learn that Nintendo only offer a replacement if this fails 3 times. I'm still on my first Wii (part of 94.7%) but it's been an arse-ache to get it working right, with no feedback, maintenance reports, apology or anything when it comes back from repair. Just the thing rattling around in a box. Given the '3 strikes' policy, the relative lack of official replacements for Nintendo is possibly quite flattering.

What if it failed and was replaced FOC?

Probably should have covered foc replacements, in my no of 360s I included it as it was still a unit I owned due to a previous one dying

Made me LOL . Feel sorry for whoever has that 360 in the pic. Great thread interesting stats. I only bought a New PS3 Super Slim after considering if I bought a 2nd hand Slim could poss have Blu-Ray laser problems although would have been unlucky.

Obviously people have misunderstood the original question then (me among them), so I would argue that the results aren't really indicative of much. Microsoft also expanded the warranty of the Xbox to 3 years, so there really shouldn't be much reason to buy a new one if a console red-rings.

To add to this as I was busy with school and missed the polling, I own 3 Wiis as 1 was stolen and returned 5 months after being replaced, then kept as it was soft-modded, and the third is North American. I also have a PS3.
