Year ago, I bought Minecraft 360 and when I upgraded to the One, I also had the One Edition, which is pretty generous.

I'd been tinkering with a world, showing my son how it works, but to be honest, it still blows my mind how simultaneously pointless and engrossing it is (I went to bed after midnight on a school night, d'oh.)

I'd been doing my usual starting stuff:
Build a small glass house with crafting table, furnace and trunk.
Build a tower as high as possible next to water near the glass house.
Put torches at the top and jump off into the water so you've got a totem to find your house.

I started exploring after building a boat and I'm still finding new things.
There was some kind of underwater temple, complete with sentries that zapped me and reduced my mining speed. Turns out, if you get to the bottom, there's treasure in the temple - exciting!
Also, it generated a small town of people, that the original 360 version never did.

I don't get how the map works though, as I was way beyond the edge, but I was still in the corner of the map.
Are maps infinite on the One version?

Bit gutted as I died and lost all my stuff and I couldn't find where I'd died as it was off-map.

Got Mirrors Edge Catalyst and Yakuza 0 for Christmas but only been on ME so far playing it with the daughter.

Really liking the PS4 game, aside from the environment sound and the nice sky on the PS3 game I think Catalyst addresses a lot of the control issues and gameplay restrictions found in the first release.
The control is more fluid (the better controllers may help here) with less of the special jump moves required to get past a particular point. Missions are really fun to do and the option of free roaming is an extra bonus.
Visuals are nicer as you would expect though I really liked the cel shading style of the first game.

My NYR of playing what I've bought is going well.

Still no purchases and ploughing a lot of time into Horizon.
Utterly hooked now and helped by looking frikkin' amazing on a 4k screen via Pro.

I played Minecraft until 1 in the morning.
            Idiot.

I'm trying to clear by harddrive of unplayed games before installing the next wave of backlog I need to go through. That wave will be:

              -Mafia III
              -Need for Speed: Payback
              -Forza Motorsport 7

But at the moment the two games remaining are:

-South Park: The Fractured But Whole
Not started yet but it should be good fun based on the first game.

              -A Hat in Time
Some stuff it does well, some stuff I'm not sold on. It's okay so far

I finished Superhot last night and I really enjoyed it.
"It's the most innovative shooter I've played in years."

Plenty of post-game distractions too like speed runs, katana-only and survival.
That last option, "Endless Mode", is particularly fun, with you constantly looking for something to throw or a gun to grab.

I got to 20 kills before dying. What are other people's records?!

I almost bought it a couple of nights ago in the PSN New Year's Sale. It was a toss up between Thumper and Superhot, both look trippy and were heavily discounted, but I went with Thumper in the end.

Thumper is probably a better fit for you, Zen, having seen some footage of it running.

If you can find time, Superhot's "story" is relatively short and is a nice distraction.
After completion, you can dip in occasionally for a quick go on Endless mode or the challenges.

The only improvement I could ask for is possibly a 3rd-person view in replay, as it just shows you what you've already seen, but at normal speed. It'd be cool to see your fella completing the level, but shown like it was an action film, because you feel pretty badass as you take out a room full of perps with just an ashtray and a picture frame.

Tried RE7 yesterday on the VR. Tense as all hell. Then went to Starblood Arena and took a few minutes but it clicked better than RIGS so I'm deeming it worthy to stay.

Zelda and Odyssey and Splatoon 2 on Switch.

Gran Turismo, Dark Souls 3 pvp, Flow, Rez and Geometry Wars 3 on PS4. Can't play enough trippy games at the moment. With that in mind I might start Thumper tonight.

I've been working 15/16 hours per day since last Tuesday. Not had chance to play much at all outside of some MK8D. Before that I was dabbling with Skyrim again on my Skooma-addicted priest of Arkay. He's off the Skooma now, but I can see another opportunity for it to creep back in very soon if I can't kill the sodding dragon I'm stuck on.

It's a Splatfest this weekend though. Need to get up to King on that, if nothing else. Itching for more Zelda, too. We're going back to Malaysia for Chinese New Year next week so will probably wait until then.

Have you played Zelda: Champion's Ballad DLC?

Nah, I'm only two-thirds through the base game, so still overwhelmed enough as it is. I don't think I'll want any additional content by the time I get done, which I anticipate to be towards the end of the year.

I'm contemplating starting a fresh playthrough on Master Mode but, like you say, it's a little overwhelming.
