Was that EA, then? My memory must be going.

I was trying to remember some sort of M&M game, which I vaguely think there was.

edit - on the subject of product placement, Superfrog was a far better tie-in for Lucozade than Tomb Raider ever was, too.

            <checks self>

well, Im not wearing pants, whcih can mean only 1 thing, crispin stole my pants!

I want them back! erm... hold on... on second thought, keep em yer dirty *******

Anyway, the Java idea would be cool, and your PC could upload save files as well, for RPGs.

Imagine logging in, and playing phantasy star 4, it could be like a soap, everday at 6 you log on and get an extra hours worth of goodness.

Quick saving could also be available.

Actually, thats even better, since for a set price, you could play any and every game on the licensy list.
Meaning, like TV, if you wanted to play 24/7, you could! And since you could play 1 game at a time, it wouldnt be unfair or cheating.
Just unfettered, pure gaming for as much as you like.

Hold on, IMO this idea is so damned good, surely Nintendo and other companies have thought of it already?

Lads, keep it quiet, but I think we're onto a winner here.
Better delete our posts, meet up, and then discuss ways of setting this up. We sitting on gold here gentlemen.

On GameCentral today there was a news story that Sega are offering this service in Japan. For around ?6 a month you get to download stuff. I remember being told about Ecco, so maybe someone can point out the website...

TBH, if I could pay for them I would. But I can't so I don't bother with them as using a keyboard for Super Mario Bros., it doesn't seem right.

Second hand is always an option, but I've seen how other people treat their machines and their boxes (the latter I'm not too fussed about - the manual has to be pristine though). Jesus Christ mate! Wait for the disc to stop spinning first! No! You barbarian!

With the N64 I believe I got about two or three second hand games. As they were carts it didn't matter so much. But the boxes took a lot of love and care before they were up to scratch (for most boxes I've thrown away the internal packaging as it takes up space and damages the manuals in the long run, just like the GB internal packaging, can't get it back in and it damages the manual and box sticking it back in).

And some philistine had stuck a Banjoo Kazooie sticker on the OOT manual. I'm like my Dad in that respect. We both care about the boxes a product comes in. Except with him it is model trains that float his boat.

Oh, and always buy sealed. Especially from Game and Woolworths stores. In Woolies, don't bring them the box. Ask for it at the Entertainment desk without a box. This is important for several reasons:

                  1) They use the box you brought them, complete with it's instruction manual that every Blackpool bint has bent and creased and torn. It is usually filthy. There are holes in the protective case sleeve that houses the box art.
                  2) They get the disc from out of a dirty cardboard sleeve which they reuse from one CD/Disc to the next. If a bit of grit gets in the sleeve ever (likely given the level of dirt in Woolies - I know, I worked there), the disc can be scratched to blazes removing the disc from the sleeve or sticking it back in there.
                  3) When they get the disc out of the sleeve, they place it face down on the dirty box, with grit on, and sometimes on the counter, which is filthy. They then move the disc all over the place, with the side the disc reads facing the surface. This is clearly a problem, especially for anything with a high level of compression.
                  4) They are retards, they have no idea how to handle a disc.

I never said I hated them, just that Woolies staff are muppets. Now I really hated the customers, oh well!

Yeah I shop online from those two. Used to buy everything sealed online from Woolies for 20% staff discount. Then they removed the 20% staff discount for entertainment products such as Cds and DVDs only. Since I spent several hundred pounds a year at that place as well have worked there for my entire working life (3 years!) I was naturally pissed and decided never to shop there again if I could avoid it.

I remember the manager making nasty horrible comments about how sad I was when I came in on Metroid Prime launch day, first thing in the morning and bought it and Super Monkey Ball 2

I thought "Well, **** you Bitch, I just help you make your sales quota for software for the day and it's 9 o clock. You should be licking my boots, not making fun of a valued customer who has bought every single console and almost every game from you for the past 5 years"

The other thing the store that I worked at really did to piss me off was to not keep a GC behind for me on launch day. All they had to do was keep it for 5 hours while I was at College. I even skipped key skills and resources so I could get the thing. I was going to purchase SMB1, SA2:B, a memory card and a second official controller. Something in the region of ?200 spend then.

I had worked there for over two years and bought at least ?500 worth of games from them. But they sold the one I had asked repeatedly to be left for me. They knew I was coming in. They knew I was going to buy ?100 worth of additional related items. They sold it, to get the money as soon as possible. I was gutted. Then, when I finally tracked down a GC in another Woolworths store, they would not give me discount. The company had failed to inform anyone that there would not be any discount given. Absolute bastards.

That was the beginning of the end for me. I bided my time and exacted my revenge slowly. And it will continue this year. I don't hurt the customers, the opposite in fact, I tell them where they can get the exact same thing from a shop just down the road where it is instock. I don't refer them to try another Woolies, I tell 'em to try a store just down the road. Helps the customers, not the company.

Like GAME though, even though they didn't give me a job. Just as well really, not a good idea to mix business with pleasure in a retail store.

Plus I couldn't give a monkeys what happened to the company after that. I recommended their rivals over ourselves. "Try Argos" I would say. I hoped the CEO would burn in hell. He was alright. He got shares as his reward scheme.

We had a reward scheme but just as when they were about to pay up, they stopped it. Bastards

Nothing like someone enjoying the job they do. I'm just glad I get 10% off everything at Asda and coming soon, for one day only, 20% off everything without a plug. Except the PS2. I would get one, but I already did that last year.

And you really don't like Woolies do you?

Don't mind Woolies online. No wait, what am I saying. They took over 4 months to deliver Ikaruga. I can't blame them for Atari screwing up totally. But we had to continually chase it up to find out what the hell was happening with the order. A quick e-mail explaining the situation would have helped. I only knew that there was a small production run because of a tiny weeny comment in Edge's most played section on the Review Intro page.

Well, it doesn't help to instill a feeling of loyalty when your manager reads the confidential surveys you are asked to fill in. And she does it in such a manner as to know who wrote what. And she tries to tell you what to put down on paper. When I put a very poor checkmark against pay, she tried to haul me up over it. Till I said I was making more money at my new job an untrained starter at Argos, just shifting boxes than as a loyal multi skilled employee who had worked there for three years. I could do stock orders, credit checks, check the contents of the tills, get out the really secure stuff from the locked rooms, do refunds and other stuff. Argos still paid better.

If Argos could just implement swipe in cards, then I wouldn't have to worry about not being paid for the odd hour of overtime. It is hard work and very tiring, but my only criticism is the poor payroll system. But you get paid every week as a box shifter so it didn't take too long to sort out. But the camaraderie in the Stockroom is great. We all get on and we never have to deal with customers. We get up very early, but it is great fun. Best of all, you can play Splinter Cell in real life in the Warehouse! Split jumps, sneaking up on people, whacking one another with really big washing line poles. Ken Do with brooms, you name it, we've all done it

Thus I am behind all of you on Ikaruga. Because of Atari. But if it weren't for Woolies I could have at least gotten an early Treasure shoot em up emulator in the mean time and practiced. **** me do. What a beautifully hard game! I am it's bitch dog from hell.

No! Mr Biscuit, Sir! Don't! Don't you see? Rename NTSC-UK as "the planet Mars" and that link as "interdimensional gateway" and what do we have? It's Doom I all over again! Arghh, cyber demons!

Back on topic (rare for me, I know), how do you feel about the Ikaruga incident I listed above.

I had purchased Ikaruga, put my money where my mouth is, yet I couldn't get it. It would not come. Would you perceive it to be morally as wrong to have tried a stripped down version say on an emulator whilst I waited?

I'm not sure. On the one hand, the controls on my laptop wouldn't be as good as on the GC in my opinion, plus there is the danger that I could complete it on the Laptop, have no wish to buy the game and cancel the order.

On the other hand, I get to play the game.

If I they had taken the money from my account for the game I suppose it could be justified.

I don't know. What are your thoughts on this?

Hmm, it's a tricky one. Another reason I don't put much stock in emulators is that they can dilute the experience, so when you do actually get to play the product on the console intended it feels fresh but at the same time all too familiar. Despite my anti-Rom stance I have dabbled in emus in the past, mainly to see what all the fuss was about, but the experience of playing a GBA game or a SNES game on a P.C felt oddly soulless - its hard to describe.

You could argue that, after you have indeed purchased Ikaruga, you have a right to experience it. Putting aside all opinions on the legal stance of it, I'd urge you to hold out if you can, you'll be playing the game you bought but by the time the GC version actually arrives you may have lost all taste for it due to your 'meh' experience through the laptop.
