PSvita does it have a future?

My time in front of the tv playing games is becoming increasingly sparser with work, wife, baby comittments and so I found myself looking for a game system i can play during my commute. I took a look at the PSvita's in my local gaming emporium yesterday and they seem to sell for 15,000 yen second hand, which is practically the same as the price of the regular PSP, so I may pick one up after Christmas.

I practically know nothing about the system though. I heard it is similar in specs to a PS3 I like the idea of having a console quality system that is portable, but are huge games like Fallout really possible on the system? Also, other than a decent version of Uncharted out for the system, what other games are there for the system, and are there any other significant costs involved? I'm not really big on online gaming but would like to keep it updated etc.

Anyway opinions on the system would be great!

Friendly Import video game discussion forum, informative reviews, NTSC (Japan / US) and PAL - BordersDown (previously known as NTSC-uk)

A lot of people on here would like it to succeed but, honestly, aren't sure if it will.

The system has very few worthwhile games. It simply hasn't really got going and after what seemed like a promising launch now seems to be fading into obscurity.

The fact is that while many people might like the idea of playing large scope console games on a handheld, they really just dont work we'll. Even when at home people generally play handheld systems in between other things, which means that they want short burst gaming.

The Vita does not offer anything better than a ds in this respect and in many other ways it's a lot worse. Technically it's an impressive specimen, but as somthing that will let you play games, its very much lacking.

Phantasy Star Online 2 is out Feb 28th as well, probably the only game I would be interested in outside of Monster Hunter and SRW.

I nearly bought one at launch but the battery life and general lack of game support has prevented me from taking the plunge.

Really I think there is just a distinct lack of any real system seller for the platform, even though from a hardware standpoint I think its brilliant.

Did we really need another thread?

Been offered some money for my i-Pad 2, which I really only use to read comics these days so figure it could be a fair trade. PSO is fairly enjoyable and it would make a change not having to play it at the PC, the fact that it is free to play on Vita is also great.

Still, i agree about the lack of a blockbuster title (although Uncharted is pretty close?), hopefully Japanese publishers will jump on board gradually like they did with the PSP.

It's not too late. If we could get a first party FPS that actually looked closer to a PS3 game, and additionally had full Online support it might make it.

The problem as I see it, is that the Vita lacks a true "Killer game" for the masses, and the great games it has (Like Uncharted) are very good, but also clearly the "1st Generation" of games on the unit.

I really hope that the publishers will give it another shot and invest in new games for 2013 that take it to the next level.

                -Mass Effect
                -GTA
                -BioShock
                -Battlefield 4

Whatever, but something that is done by the 1st party developer.

There are great games on Vita though:

                - Persona 4
                - Uncharted
                - LBP
                - Gravity Rush
                - NFS Most Wanted
                - WipeOut
                - Unit 13
                - Motorstorm

These are super games, but for me personally they are "Very strong 8's maybe a 9" and we need a system seller that everyone would like to own...

It's not looking good for the Vita, a shame as it's such a powerful & comfortable handheld.

If there's not an influx of new games announced at E3 this year and the device sees no upward swing then I can't imagine any developers will jump on board. And with no new games, the public won't buy it.

2013 could be the make or break it year for the Vita.

It's powerful but not close to PS3. Much like PSP wad not close to PS2.

Like the 3DS it has few worth getting. If you feel you would invest time into the good titles then get one.

I have to admit that this also has dissapointed me. PSVita games remind me of the iPad in quality. Things like Dead Space that everyone was so impressed by, had me thinking "The lighting is just a sprite."

I was a bit optimistic about the graphics, but Unchartered shows that in the right hands it can really deliver. If they had the budget to do UC2Vita I am quite sure we would see an increase to native resolution and even better results.

**sigh** A failed PSVita is just so damned bad for old school gamers.

They should start pushing it as an input device like the Nintendo GamePad. That'd get things moving again, and people might even buy an actual Vita game for it too.
