I'm with Speedy on this. For me, when I was younger my mum would say I was spending too long on the PC but she refused to grasp the difference between playing Sonic and editing the registry.

Yes, I was on the computer a lot, but I was also running Linux on my Xbox and stuf like that. Stuff that helps me earn money now.

Not actually attacking games, but instead a comically superficial defence of their benefits ("Did you know, most gamers play games in social groups?", etc.): http://www.bbc.co.uk/guides/zcs76fr

I was planning to watch that Horizon special on my way to work today, but the iPlayer decided to stop downloading overnight, bah. The above article is a bit light as you've mentioned, but holding out some hope the associated show's good.

It was so bad honestly. I swear broadcast television is for the very old and the criminally dumb.

I didn't watch it but I did watch the Rockstar thing with Harry Potter in it. It was very clumsy and the writing seemed pretty poor and even the acting was off, which is odd because it had some good people. Nevertheless, I did find it entertaining so I guess it did its job.

A guy I was at uni with was the definition of this. Had a girlfriend, socialised etc... I think 'computer time' separates into two categories though.

                1. Those who use most of their time productively

                2. Those who spend most of their computer time in an unproductive manner - gaming online ALL the time

There's no doubt about it, those in box 1 are the rarer breed.

                  When I was my little brother's age I was a number 1. He's a number 2

He got his first job recently so I'm expecting his online sessions to cut down drastically.

Another story and another case of papers blaming gaming as they lay the fault at CoD, GTA and Resi for the 15yr old hacking TalkTalk.

Its almost obscene how lazy the journalism is now. The gaming industry should be able to sue for slander.

The Capcom community manager's twitter response to suggestions that Resident Evil is the cause was good:

Daily Mail blaming Resi for some kid hacking a network? No doubt Talk Talk's security involves moving statues and a medallion to open doors?

                          Ha ha ha, that's great!

I also laughed at the quote from The Sun, that manages to both ridicule both video games and the kid's gaming skills:
"The Sun also goes with the story of the "reclusive" TalkTalk hacker on its front page, but waits until page five before mentioning he wanted to become a professional Call of Duty player.
"He told web pals he wants to be a professional gamer playing violent war game Call of Duty - despite losing 26 of his 28 battles," The Sun reports.
                          "

                          Oooooh, SNAP!

It seems so pointless bringing this up every time because basically every boy in the first world plays violent games now, and so whenever something happens there will always be a "link" to violent games. And yet middle-aged racists eat it up every time.
