    PTE30: Platinum Standard

Platinum Games are a very well thought of dev and so I'm mixing their work and the output done during their Clover era to see what peeps fave is. 2013 is a big year for them with the western launch of Anarchy Reigns, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, P100 and possibility of Bayonetta 2 due.

Woah.. Tough one. Vanquish and Bayonetta are 2 personal faves, but I adored Okami. Never really put the time into Godhand - mainly because I watched too many people on youtube beasting it, then couldn't do it myself and pussied out.

I never got that far with Bayonetta but it is on my backlog to revisit. I love Vanquish but Anarchy Reigns is the game I've had the most fun with from them.

I've gone for Vanquish, but could quite easily have picked Okami or Bayonetta instead. May well be different in a few months after rinsing Anarchy Reigns and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

            Clover - Okami.

Platinum - Vanquish; but only because the first time I played it I'd met Shinji Mikami earlier in the day and Hideki Kamiya was watching me.

Vanquish easily for me - best game on the PS3, only played Joe which I didn't really like and Bayonetta which I liked even less.

I went for Bayonetta but Okami lies in my backlog pile so could end up beating it as its a bit more 'me' by the looks. Found God Hand to be their most overrated release in terms of how its got a cult fanbase now. I tend to enjoy most of the games to some level but sometimes their titles can feel pretty shallow and the style carries them by whereas others feel they put a lot of effort in. P-100 could be interesting looking ahead and based on the demo MGR risks being my worst MG and worst Platinum release.

Okami. Such a beautiful (the HD re-release looks gorgeous) and unique game, style-wise there's nothing quite like it. The humour, the world, the characters and the music are just so lovingly created. Gameplay-wise, it's is a solid Zelda clone with some great original ideas (the Celestial Brush). A true, modern classic game and a work of art.

                    Did someone else make Okamiden?

Now this is a tough one.

For my money, when you factor in regularity of output and range of vision, Kamiya is the potentially the most interesting man working in video games today. For shame, I've not played everything on this list yet (Madworld, Infinite Space, and the VJ spin-offs are sat on the shelves) but Platinum are probably my favourite developer about right now. With all of that said, I've plumped for Bayonetta, as it's absolutely fantastic.

Ack, this has just reminded me that I haven't played Infinite Space or Okami HD yet.

Vanquish is an odd one. I loved the demo enough to play it over and over again but when I got the full game I got bored with it really quickly.
