Though better looking than the current titles it looks Nintendos kept it budget, the 3Ds certainly not being stretched by it. That said it doesn't need to be, thats Xmas 2013 wrapped up for them.

Simplicity is something the pokemon games have alway benefitted from. I'll be buying.

This looks brilliant, will help shift quite a lot of 3DS consoles next Xmas. Also its really nice for everyone to get it at the same time. Just wonder how long this has been in development as October is alot sooner than i was expecting it.

It looks pretty nice. Not sure I'd really ever go for a Pokemon game as the hook has been lost for me as they added about a million (almost) Pokemon and made it so complicated, but I guess it's about time they moved to 3DS and it is nice they're at least somewhat taking advantage of the newer system by making it more 3D. Technically, doesn't look all that impressive though. Jumping Flash came to mind. But that would hardly negatively affect the game.

More total bull**** coming out of Iwata's stupid face. It's going to have new features to take advantage of the new hardware? What new hardware? The 3DS is nearly 2 years old now. There's already been a Pokemon game released since the launch of the 3DS. ON THE ORIGINAL DS. Possibly the stupidest thing he's said since claiming low profile form factor is important in handheld design. Idiot.

Looks like a good game and a definite evolutionary leap in the series with the new overworld look. I don't think we've got analogue movement yet judging by some of video footage, but if grid-based movement is required to make it work I'm not too sad about it.

Unfortunately, although the style is great, the graphics in general just didn't look that good. I've yet to be really impressed with any graphics on the 3DS, and the biggest thing holding it back is the low-res screen. All the edges of objects just look bad.

Interestinly, Iwata said something along the lines of "This October you will see lots of new faces, but you will see some of your old favourites as well." Is this signalling a new generation barrier a la Gen 3? I sure hope so. They could do with reworking the stat mechanics, and hopefully stop the GTS being filled with hacked (or "artificially created" if you prefer that term) Pokemon.

You find pokemon complicated? The series has always been a somewhat dumbed down, albeit it highly addictive take on the rpg genre.

Complicated is not a word I would use when describing it. All adding more and more pokemon has done is given people more of the same thing to play.

^ It's not dumbed down. The permutations and customization available amongst the various types nowadays is complicated, especially when you factor in 'beauty' contests, etc. Makes the systems underlying the Souls games look simple and transparent.

Yep, what Golgo said. And the prospect of actually trying to catch them all, which was once the hook, is beyond daunting now. Completely impossible without many, many trips to Gamefaqs I imagine and, even then, the commitment involved would be just too much.

I think it's probably dumbed down in the sense that all that stuff is totally optional. You don't need any advanced tactics or anything like that to beat the game.

I've said it before, but the Pokemon series desperately needs a reboot. New set of monsters with no connection to the previous set. Constantly adding new Pokemon has proven itself to be unsustainable, and making games that only have a selection of monsters from previous instalments makes things more complicated, not less.

Gotta catch 'em all. It said it on the box. Gotta! All! Every one of them. That's not optional, it's a command that only the foolish would ignore. Not 'maybe', or 'wouldn't it be nice?' Gotta!

Yeah but once it got complicated, they ditched that catchphrase.

I got a 3DS for Xmas and I'm only really interested in the Nintendo-made titles, so I'll probably pick this up. Every one in the series since Gold/Silver has bored me after a while though, it seems like it's too much of cash cow to take a risk on innovation.

On that note I hope they allow transfer of Pokemon from the DS Black and White, I didn't pick up the 3DS Black and White and it would be a bit of a kick in the pants to have to buy that (and complete the main story) as a stepping stone to taking my collection from the DS title...
