    Best games for brain training?

I like games which give me the illusion of being smarter after having played them. Currently playing a lot of Picross on my DS, and I have spent some time with Mathemagics on iOS, but I'm hungry for more. I had one of the Brain Training games on the DS, but that felt more like homework than a game. Something deeper which offer a greater sense of getting better at it would be nice.

So, what are your favorite games to make yourself feel smart?

Love the Layton games, but they're not quite what I'm looking for. I want a game where I can get increasingly better as the game gets increasingly harder. The Layton games instead is a bunch of individual puzzles - while great - doesn't let you get better at them. And I don't want time limits in the game, so nothing like Tetris or Lumines.

As for Chess, I miiight get myself a DS chess game, unless there's something about Chessmaster that makes it very special?

It's frigging CHESSMASTER! Also, there's one on every system. I'd be very surprised if there isn't one on the DS.

I'd recommend Slitherlink on the DS, if you can find it. Marvellous game: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/pu...herlink-review

Slitherlink looks pretty cool. Any tips for iOS/PC/XBLA or other stuff I can get like totally right now?

Corrypt for iOS (free on PC)? Indiegames gave it best puzzler of 2012: http://indiegames.com/2013/01/top_10...urce=pulsenews

Haven't got myself yet but I've read it's mighty clever and brain-busting.

Love the art style. Not so big on crate pushing. That's something I grew out of many years ago. :P

It's not about crate pushing. It's about using/combining tiles to construct the world/dungeon as you explore it - which is I bit of a mind**** - and if you go wrong you can proceed no further. Anyway, at 69p or free it's no big gamble.

The games that came before it were quite good, but Ridge Racer 7 is the best.

Maybe not playing a game is better for the brain than playing a brain training game? I recall watching a BBC programme about brain training games where they carried out a study which revealed that those who played brain training games had no advantage in simple arithmetic, memory, etc. than those who didn't play. Seriously, I suspect a walk outside is probably more beneficial.

Dunno, watching Countdown and doing the cryptic crossie seems to keep me 'sharpish'.
