    Are we getting lame LEs?

I've never really looked too closely at this but is Europe getting stiffed with lame LE versions of games?

I was looking at buying a copy of DMC and heard there was an LE. After much trawling I found out only Gamespot have the LE and it comes with a necklace and DLC

I go to the Japanese version and the eCapcom LE comes with necklace, artbook, soundtrack.

So I look at Metal Gear Rising

Zavvi have the exclusive on this, it comes with raiden model and DLC

I go to look at the Japanese version and it comes with 2 smaller robot models, art book, soundtrack.

I'm feeling mighty robbed at the minute and have lost interest in buying the LEs of these games!

Limited Editions are a load of old tat anyway. They are widely available so not really limited in any way. They certainly aren't collectible and the odd bit of pre-order bonus DLC isn't going to make much difference to the game or it would have folks up in arms.

Depends on the game for me. Some games I like to have the extras because I'm a fan of the series. The 2 games I mentioned above are series' of games that I like and feel a bit annoyed that our extras are pretty naff.

Japan getting better LEs than the UK is hardly a new thing anyway. I never buy them even when importing games since, as others have said, it's all a load of tat anyway. I also have no idea what I would do with the stuff once I get it - I have tons of boxed systems, games, accessories, toys and LEs from when I was a bit younger, but now I just think 'where would I put that scantily clad Miku doll in my house?'.

Limited Editions are lame in themselves. Limited edition to about 4 million units. Good one.

I don't go anywhere near them personally. All I want is the game, I don't need toys or books or pamphlets.

Swings & roundabouts, sometimes the uk or usa might get a awesome edition that japan doesn't, other times japan gets something awesome that nobody else gets. Although in general japan just gets treated better to limited editions.

Personally i love limited editions but it totally depends on the game & the contents of the edition. Slapping a dlc code in a box is not a limited edition, neither is like Joe already said releasing it in such a large amount that it will never run out. Lol halo master chief helmet anyone. Due to having limited space i have to be very selective nowdays, the ones i didn't mind getting were the e-capcom ones for phoenix wright as at least they are limited & fairly low print runs.

I got burned out on LEs when every publisher started doing steelbooks, which got old quickly.

These days I prefer standard editions, looks much more uniform on the shelf.

No no kuni and it's book + plushie seems a good LE mind.

With any E-Capcom / Konamistyle / Sega Direct etc edition there's no reason why it should be anything but the 'definitive' version. You'd imagine it's always in their best interests to usurp any others that exist by offering something exclusive they can use to draw the loyalists in to where their profits will be the highest.

I buy some LE stuff but as with Goemon, only really for stuff that I care about and that looks decent enough. That UK DmC set sounds particularly awful.

PSP Limited editions are fantastic. Normally the same price and come with loads of lovely extras that all sit in a nice small box. Art cards, music cd's, maps etc. All nice stuff that isn't just expensive plastic junk.

I've picked up most of the CAVE shooters but that's mostly because I thought they were pretty cool (Espgaluda 2 Face Plate was my bestest)

Personally I'd prefer if they'd all come with Superplay DVD's though.

Aside from that I did get the Jpn Street Fighter IV LE when it was released as it came with the DVD & Calender which were pretty cool, the Gears 3 one as I really wanted the Marcus Fenix statue & the Arkham City one again because I wanted the Kotobukiya Batman statue but aside from that I agree that most are useless tat

A LE should come with either somthing that is collectible and will be worth something in a few years, or somthing that adds to the game. A nice hardback guide or something.

Most contain a CD that features 3 songs from the soundtrack and a downloadable multiplayer skin or some fluff.

I think it depends on the game and sometimes the developer . I would expect a Japanese studio and publisher to give it home market the best LE and so it follows for a Western publisher .

Some of the LE we've got over here have been very good imo

They are widely available so not really limited in any way
Depends . I don't think Bioshock, Assassin's Creed 2 ( Black Ed), Sonic Generations , Mass Effect collector editions were made in that big of numbers

This is what I would have thought but the DMC is a UK dev and Japan is getting the best LE.
