The Beta for RR8 is now available to download. However, it's exactly the same as RR7 apart from the number change, because hey, why change perfection.

I realise my criteria limits me a bit but surely there must be something out there that fits the bill?

I heard some people liked the music more in 6 too, but I'm not into trashy dance music so I can't really comment on either game in that regard.
More race tracks
More music and you can download all the good tracks from 6, plus loads more
Better customisation/ car mods/nitrous mods
Some cool features like using the ds to look around whilst racing
Sharp/clean graphics not antialiased to death
Totally different progression
Technically its way better too -
7.1 uncompressed audio (makes a massive difference to the 'trashy dance music')
Native 1080p,with better textures
I'm sure there is more - thats all i can remember as i havent played it a while. I'm sure joe could fill in the blanksLast edited by dvdx2; 20-01-2013, 13:32.

You literally don't even need to own a PS3 to treasure a copy of Ridge Racer 7 and enjoy Ridge Racer 7 ownership.

Ridge Racer 7 is definitely better than 6 overall, if only because 7 is basically just an improved version of 6. But I do also prefer the progression system of 6 as well as the soundtrack. Ridge Racer 7 is one of the only games where I actually bought extra music tracks as DLC (the RR6 tracks) simply because many of the RR6 music tracks are better. I'm normally steadfast against buying tidbits like costumes and soundtracks
But in fairness, if a person only owns a 360, they're not missing out on much if they buy RR6 instead of 7. RR7 is an improved version of essentially the same game.

RR6 came out almost a year before RR7. I played RR7 I was like wooo nice 1080p very impressive (not as impressive as Wipeout), I then saw some slowdown and saw I was racing in same track that was on RR6, which I'd only finished a few months previous.
So I quickly traded it in, I wasn't going to replay RR6 with better graphics and to this day I probably never will.

Ok Ridge Racer 6 has the World Xplorer which is better as you can set up your own mini GP's, but the AI is totally stupid and always A) either barges into you or cut across your racing line losing you speed, and B) if your using nitrous you give them a speed boost which is also totally stupid. The AI is better in 7.
