As long as Nintendo give this the makeover it deserves i.e. 1080p 60fps, then I will be happy. The game is two generations old. These are the numbers we should be aiming for with our current generation games.

I just cannot understand noobish whatsoever. He doesn't make any sense to me, at all, but then again I imagine I'm not the only one.
Are you saying that not a single game should EVER be rereleased as it is already available to what ever ancient, dead platform it was released for 20 years ago? Why the hell release C64 games on the Wii, just get a C64 and the floppy disks from a flea-market, is that your opinion?

Basically, it's the same thing, yes. Are you aware that Nintendo Gamecube isn't manufactured or sold in stores and neither is Wind Waker? I'd rather buy an upgraded version for ?20 than buy a crappy used copy from Amazon for ?50 (and buy a Gamecube, controller and memory card) but that's just me.
And Gamecube wasn't last gen for Nintendo btw.
Also, when would it be appropriate to rerelease WW, in your opinion? It's 10 years old now. So should it be 20, 25 or 50?Last edited by Guts; 24-01-2013, 13:28.

Wind Waker is 10 years old? Some gamers today weren't even alive then and will never own a GameCube. I only started gaming properly about 14 months ago. Surely games from last generation are better candidates to be remade (let's not forget the Wii lived and died between the Gamecube and Wii U) since games like Wind Waker and Pikmin hold up against any modern games in terms of playability whereas you C64 games are very much limited by the technology of the time (which is part of their charm). Wind Waker deserves better than to be dated by 4:3 ratios and composite consoles. It's like an old movie with great Cinematography, you want it in HD. You don't have to buy Wind Waker if you already played it, the new release is an option, for fans and a new generation.Last edited by Pikate; 24-01-2013, 13:31.

Also, can we get noobish's approved time for rereleasing a game? You didn't give that either.

Guts,
This is the point I was trying to make, that HD remakes are fine and benefit gamers. Don't get me wrong I don't agree with Nintendo trying to sell SNES games for a fiver, that's just a rip off.
But then if I want to play SNES games I have a real one and an arcade cab for emulation so it don't really bother me.
If they had just released it as a straight port / emulation then I wouldn't be too bothered, but it will look a lot better than the original, which still looks like a stonking game. It has a special place in my heart as it was the first game I played when I bought my first projector, was something pretty special at the time.
I don't think you , me or anyone else is going to change Noobish's mind on this one, he is obviously set in his ways to the point where he can't see past this issue. I was nearly like that myself a couple of years ago, but just accepted that the world is like that and I would enjoy what we have than moan about it every two seconds.

I didn't call you any names. If what I said counts as name-calling, than I'm sure implying that nobody on this forum understands me also qualifies.
Unlike you, I don't see the world in black and white, so no, I can't give you an approved time for rereleasing games because it would be different for each game wouldn't it. If a game had a limited print run, a subsequent rush of popularity, and a steep increase in value because of that, then that is a good reason to rerelease it. Symphony of the Night is a good example of that. I don't recall Wind Waker having a limited print run.
We used to have this thing called 'retro'. If you were interested in an older game, you went out and bought it. Researching which games are worth your interest, and finding them, took a little thought and effort. You appreciated the asthetics and technology of the time. Now you wait for Nintendo to decide which games you should see (and it won't be anything more obscure like Majora's Mask, that deserves more attention, it will be something that sold a billion copies the first time round). You wait for them to clean it up and homogenise it until it looks like every other piece of **** from this current generation you're so in love with you can't stand to offend your eyes with anything less, and you pay them again for the privelege.
HD Rereleases aren't fundamentally offensive. I have no problem per se with the concept of prequel movies, and reboots, and sequels, and remakes either. But there comes a point where enough is enough. Give us something new. The film industry's laziness and fixation with the aforementioned is now the subject of widespread ridicule. Maybe most people haven't grown sick of the similar state of games, but when they finally do, I just want to say I called it.
P.S. At no point did I say people should buy a GameCube JUST to play Wind Waker. The cube does play a few other games, you know. Pretty much every single person who is in favour of WWHD has stated that they can't wait for HD versions of other cube games.

Noobish, you have made some good points and will always be entitled to your opinions, but considering you won't buy new releases these days on principle, you have no right to demand Nintendo/etc. create new franchises as you wouldn't buy them anyway. When you own a current generation console with the intension of buying games for it you can demand whatever you like.
Can we have this thread locked if this rehashed "debate" goes on much longer?

So how exactly does the HD release ruin your "retro" enjoyment? Because more people can now enjoy it easily and cheaper? Does it stop you from playing the game on your GC on your 21" CRT?
Also, if we start to lock every thread where someone disagrees with noobish, there's not going to be a forum for much longer.Last edited by Guts; 24-01-2013, 14:31.
